do you have any error codes?
was the 360 yours from new?
when was it manufactured?
#2
...death, anyone? :(
#3
call microsoft on this number +44 20 7365 9792
all xbox 360 are now covered for 3 years.
#4
And after three years people promise to fix it for you..at a price.
#5
wrap it in towels

wrap it in towels

don't wrap it in towels!
#7
Search for RROD on http://forums.xbox-scene.com

Have a look at this full tutorial how to fix. It involves opening the 360 so only do this if it is out of warranty. It's a permanent fix not like the towel trick that usually only works for an hour or two and can damage other components. http://www.igorbov.com/index.php?id=3redlightsfix

you shuld be in warranty send it off
#10
Just send it off, after all it costs you nothing.
I am in the same situation as you, except I bought it second hand from a mate, who in turn bought it pre owned from Gamestation. I have tried registering the console on Xbox.com, but it wont so the first owner must have registered it.
What should I do? Phone Cust. Services and hopefully they will take it for repair?
Thanks a lot.
Dan.

Gamestation should offer a warrenty.

or at least send it off for you.

When my xbox had 3 red lights, I rang microsoft without a receipt and they repaired it for free. They sent a courier to come pick it up and send it back to me. The bloke told me on the phone that all 360's are still in the 3 year warranty .

Only problem is that it takes around a month to come back
#13
Ahh yeah didn't think of that.
Will have to get the receipt off my mate if he still has it, stupid me forgot to ask him for it when I got it.

Ummm. Can they tell if its been chipped and banned from live. I like know someone who like has RROD and needs it fixed but umm the unit might have been fiddled with...
#15
Not sure how they can tell if it is modded (chipped) but it does void the warranty.
Being banned from live would not affect the warranty, and anyway they shouldn't really be able to tell because it is the gamertag, not the console that is banned I think, someone correct me if I am wrong.

Other way around...

Console is banned, not the Gamertag.

They have a microsoft sticker on the console, so when you open it up and remove the sticker, they can see that the console has been modded/flashed.
#19
Unless he hair dryer-ed the sticker off :D

Tell him to send it anyway - if they are busy you have a 50-50 chance of them fixing it anyway.

there has been reports in the states of them fixing modded consoles

but have not heard of it being done here

unmod it and send it off
#22
My sons did it just before christmas but was under 12 months old and tesco let him swap it for the elite. We tried the towel thing but it was only temporary.
#23
I sent my modded 360 back to MS when I got the 3 red lights of death,
took ages but yes they mended it and yes it still plays (ahem) games...
#24
hi all lets just say sending it back to microsoft is not an option cheers for the help so far there looks like a couple of things i can try
#25
i had a 360 with the 3 red lights sent it back to microsoft and they sent it back with a new motherboard (same console)...

the good part for me anyway the seal they used after the repair was just a paper sticker so was easier to remove than the foil one...

lets just say i erm wanted to inspect their repairs:whistling:

I kow of about 50 ppl (another forum) and it is almost exactly 50% that were repaired. Nobody was charged to get the unfixed machine back (an unconfirmed rumour was the yanks charging return shipping).

Send now and the chances are fair. They will be busy with all the ones that died over xmas.

they are getting quick at reparing now they have sent mine back to me today. I only sent it to them on Thursday. But I would deffinety try to send it to them.
