DONT! It comes with 3 year warranty extra cooling is not needed. Get a warranty claim now and you will get a newer version which will be quieter if your so bothered

Do you get the upgrade model?
I know it wont be the Elite, the newer white console.

Mines is just away on warranty through the "red ring of death".
If you use a cooler, it can void the Warranty though so be careful.
Any tell-tale signs of attaching one, and they will pick up on it.

You get reburbished consoles unless you have had several die on you already, then they tend to give you a new one to keep you happy. Unless you take it back to a shop in which you should get a newer console.

Arn't the external fans surposed to cause more damage then good.
Theres been stories of the fan draining all the power fromt he 360 causing the 3ROD. Also apprently the fans melt on to the 360s

when i took it back to the shop for replacement the guy wouldn't swap it over because he couldn't find a fault, i've been using an external cooler which has stopped the 360 from crashing. but reading your comment may damage the 360 more, which could affect the warranty

so should i use it without cooler, let it constantly crash on me until it gets the RRoD, use it with cooler and risk internal damage of the 360, or ring microsoft

I would rather let it break now and get a repalcement. Rather then keep it running and if it breaks, having to buy a new one
