'ello, looking for advice really - i have an xbox 360 7 months in on its 12 month warrentee. but ive barely used the thing and people keep saying that its gonna break or that its very likely to (not a question of if, but when sort of thing) . so im wondering if its as bad as people say, and i'll sell it and get a ps3 instead .. only game i really want is gta4. im just worried that when i actually start to use it it'll break

anyone else worried that theyve wasted 300 quid?

I'm on 360 number 5. :-D

Always breaks before the warranty is up though..........last one lasted 8 weeks.
#2
ive barely used it, so i guess i should sell so it doesnt break out of the 12 months. 5? thats just ridiculous . If i had any faith it would work for a reasonable amount of time id keep it. ps3 is looking good now
[mod]#3
I have to say i would recommend the PS3...........mine sits on a lot of the time and no problems with it yet. :)

360's are generally fine as long as they don't get too much heavy use.
#4
still on my first 360, no problems yet
#5
I have two and the kids use them a lot, so far I have had to have one replaced and was lucky enough that it was in warranty. Two of my mates , have had theirs repaired or motherboards replaced too. They were unlucky as they were not under warranty.
#6
Im on my second, my first broke exactly two months after getting it.
#7
this is what i worried about, i read something that said 1 in 3 would fail
#8
I have had mine since January and no problems at all. Apart from the odd game crash but then it is a Microsoft product!
#9
Mine is around 18 months old, it generally gets heavy use especially with Earth Defence Force which I have almost beaten on hardest...almost, just need some new guided missile weaponry.

im on my first, im getting abit worried tho, as it doesn't seem to load levels properly (i.e textures missing) and earlier i had 1 red light

1 red light is usually a disc drive error

Microsoft’s UK repair centre in Havant is now redistributing faulty consoles to foreign repair centres in order to clear an overwhelming backlog and keep up with the 1,500 to 2,500 Xbox 360s arriving at its doors on a daily basis, according to customer reports.

And that's only in the UK!!! :w00t:
The Inquirer

The European Union's consumer rights people need to fine Microsoft for this.
#13
right, im gnna advertise my 360 in the paper, if im lucky i might not lose out too much

because when the games id play come out i'll have 2 -3 months before end of warranty and i doubt it'll last that long after that runs out- or just the fact im worried about using it now at all

poxy microsoft, gnna get a sony - at least they can build stuff that lasts
#14
I've had my 360 since December, haven't had any problems myself (and it's my first).
#15
I'm thinking of selling my xbox 360 to, Not because of reliability (Its still got about 9 months warranty) But its barely getting used!
#16
how much you think i'll get for

360 premium extra wireless pad
table tennis
gears of war
saints row
fight night 3
project 8
pgr3
cod3
and vga cable for pc monitor all barely used, saints row etc still wraped?

Between £200-£250. Maybe a little more beings it has some warranty left.
#18

I'd check how much you get trade in for the games at Blockbuster you may get £26 each for GOW, FN3 and maybe £50 for the others. Be a big step towards the PS3 and sell the 360 console seperately.....

I got my xbox in Sept 06 and use it about 15hours every week and not had any problems...
#20
I loved the original Xbox and Xbox live and got a launch 360, surely the worst designed most unreliable console ever made totally ridiculous. I have got through 4+ and gave up and got a PS3 best thing I ever did as the PS3 has had zero problems not even one freeze.
#21
I take it no-one actually cares about the games anymore?

No surprise these days I guess.

Dont get an Ps3 its bloody crap

Microsoft relase consoles have had problems but since consoles made after that do not have a problem

Look at the back of your console and tell me the Manufacture date

If november/December

Go to the place you brought it from say it over heats and you will get a new Xbox 360

Register this with Microsoft and you will get 12 months warranty again

ALSO

GTA 4 :) Microsoft Xbox 360 going to have excluive content microsoft paid 5 mill for :)

They were saying the manufacturer date as YYYY/MM/DD (instead of DD/MM/YYYY or YY)

Your machine has an older drive, Either Hitachi or Samsung.

The new drives are a lot quieter and are made by Benq.
#32
Replaced mine maybe 3 times in total with one problem or another. PS3 is a much better built machine if you want my honest opinion. The extra money you pay, you will save at a later date on repairs, less tress on repairs and downtime and generally a more capable machine. For me it's personally a no brainer but see what's within your budget and what you want from a system.

H4x3r, No offense but using the words "listen to me" always seems very demanding and as if you're trying to be authoritative, I much prefer an explanation and a nice "hope that helps" etc at the end. :)

Its something that grates on me and ruins the point of being helpful IMO.

After the saga i had replacing my original XB, all had been going smooth until tonight, when during less than two hours of playing Forza Motorsport 2, the game crashed on me twice.

I am starting to get annoyed now. I believe that right now the ball is firmly withing Microsofts court with regard to choice of exclusive titles, quality of games, current sales and affordable pricing, yet still they refuse to admit that there is a concrete problem with the 360. They risk throwing away what is potentially a winner in the console "war".

I fail to see why this is. I would be much more inclined to buy a 360 if i knew that the problem had been acknowledged and fixed, and would feel allot less hostile towards them also. Anyone with half a brain can see that their is a huge design flaw in the product, why not fix it now and bury it before MS have a huge problem to face, and the 360 ends up like the Dreamcast?

Haha!, The OP isn't five years old though!! :giggle:

Basically, Cold toast, You get a warranty of 1 year with the retailer, In this case Blockbusters, So if it overheats etc, You should be able to walk in with the old one, Get it replaced and walk out with a new one!!

Syzable, Another forum member has recently taken his back to Blockbusters and he is now on his 5th console, faulty one has been replaced with a new one every time!! (and apparently the 1 years warranty starts up again!!)

1stly That game has had problems a batch released was faulty

Ive got my copy replaced at game for free upon recitpt

now..........You cant say there is a design flaw because Microsoft will be in the media everywhere about crappy xboxs tthen wouldn't they?

Xbox 360 is such a great console ive had since December without no replacement

Ive been using it everyday since I got it Music, Movies, games, downloading demos

Even now its on

Ive never had a problem

Microsoft have recpleed all relase consoles where problems accoured

but now the xbox 360s are very well wth new hardware such as new dvd droves
