3D films....

The other day I saw someone on here mention that not all 3D films are good quality, apparently they aren't all filmed as 3D but some are changed to 3D after and are not so good?

Really don't understand how it all works, but would like to go see another 3D film soon, but want another good one like Avatar was.

How can you find out which would be best? Or which are meant to be 3D

Went to see How To Train Your Dragon 3D with the kids yesterday - that was excellent.

The trailer for Toy Story 3D was on beforehand though, and looked pretty pants to me (the 3D I mean - the film should be good). There was a trailer for a CGI kids film about owls (random, I know) that looked really good in 3D though.

Yeah, my daughter went to see that and said it was good.

Until Avatar hadn't seen anything 3D since the 80's, lol so was quite blown away by how the technology has progressed. Want to see another now, but like I said, presumed a 3D film was 3D and that was that, but saw someone say not so. need to know how you can tell which films were meant to be 3D and which are just jumping on the band wagon, lol

hope toy story is good-truthfully avatar is the only TRUE 3d movie-everything else is just a lip service to 3d. The next harry potter will have 3d but it wasnt filmed that way-after the success of avatar they decided to "recreate" it in 3d. clash of the titans is a total mess in 3d,how to train your dragon is ok,alice in wonderland, crap film, crap 3d.

altho I didnt think much of avatar as a movie, the 3d itself was stunning but look how much that cost-will be a long time before anyone else attempts anything on that scale methinks.

if you can get the region one release of "zombie strippers" there is a 3d version-funniest thing you will ever see!:whistling:

I think a lot are just converted to 3D - that's what made Avatar so different, as it was actually filmed using 3D cameras. I've not seen anything that compares to it for 3D-ness :-D

At the moment they only have one complete camera system for filming in 3D which is why Clash of the titans was converted after because the system was being used on avatar

looks like I chose a bad one to watch first then! lol

have to agree with the Avatar comment, the film itself - meh, the 3D is what blew me away.

For a film to be converted properly (without the use of a 3D camera) to 3D it takes 7-9 months. Due to the success of Avatar, film studios are rushing the process on their films.

Clash Of The Titans took 3 months to convert.

I'd personally avoid any movie in 3D that doesn't use the same cameras and processes as Avatar. In fact I'd avoid any movie in 3D altogether. It's a step backwards for picture quality and a gimmick at best.

Kermode has it right - http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/markkermode/2010/03/the_science_of_3d_explained.html
