4 and a half month old baby

Hey everyone!

Just thought I would ask on here.

Katie is now 18 weeks (4 1/2 month) old and I have been giving her little tastes of purée but now she is not finishing her bottles sometimes she leaves half. It's like she is going off milk so try giving her some more purée to help fill her up but she just screams at me.

Is this normal behaviour or should she really be taking more of her bottle?

Thanks

add a cheeky shot of vodka into her bottle, she'll lap it right up

Haha wishful thinking. But on a more serious note I want her to be taking more of her bottle

Might she be teething? My LO went off food when teething. Just a thought! How much milk does she drink each day? I can't recall how much they are supposed to have at this age but HV would tell you. Is she still gaining weight and sleeping ok? If so maybe she has just finished a growth spurt and needs a little less food until the next one. Again my LO's appitite varied according to how much she was growing. Sorry not to be more help but these may be things to consider.

Mine were all having 4 8oz bottles of milk through the day, and sleeping through before they were weaned - and you just know when is the right time, if she's not still hungry after her bottle, I'd delay weaning for a few more weeks. At her age, the milk is the most important thing. Alternatively, if you really think sh'es ready try giving her the bottle first, then after an hour or two, a few spoons of food. It's up to you, mum knows best and all that, but a good milk/sleep routine would be my priority.

She will be on milk for a good time yet but don't worry about phases of eating less unless it significant. Keep doing what feels right. Sounds like you're doing everything right. Might just be teething etc x

The 6 month thing is because they reckon that weaning before 6 months has given rise to an increase in allergies and Asthma, but I think this is BS personally. Children have been weaned from 4 months since ye olden days, then all of a sudden they have decided in the past 5 years that this has caused allergies.

My fist was weaned at about 3 months and 3 weeks, after he lunged at my sister while she was eating a banana and took a massive chunk, ate it successfully with no teeth lol!! He had been ready for a few weeks but I wanted to wait till he was at least 6 months, but he started to throw bottles away from him when he saw someone eating real food from about 3 months. No probs with him, no allergies etc, I think he was just a little advanced (he was holding his head up within a couple of weeks of birth, crawling at just over 4 months etc).

Youngest I started just letting her have a rusk to suck on at just over 3&half months because she would just feed and feed and feed. Was really funny with baby rice, and anything homemade, but took to the Heinz baby food you mix up yourself really easily. She didn't like the next stage with bits in though, and was very very reluctant, but would eat stuff like potato cakes at about 6 months (I found this out after she stole her brothers breakfast).

What I am trying to say is every child is very different, and you yourself will know when things are not right. Try altering the order in which you do things with weaning and bottles, at first my youngest was a bit funny and got very windy, a bit collicky when trying pureed stuff, which could be what the screaming is. She was diagnosed with possible reflux after having body spasms during feeding, was given Gaviscon for a few weeks, and everything settled down.

As already stated if she is gaining weight properly and generally happy and healthy I wouldn't worry too much, it's just a case of trial and error because every kid is differen, what works for my LO's won't necessarily be the same for yours.

ESSAY FINISHED LMAO
