4 Devonshire dumplings about to hit London!!

Hello friendly people!
We are planning a girly weekend of shopping, theatre trips, eating and more shopping!! We're arriving by train at Paddingotn and staying at Russell Square.
So - should we get an "Oyster card"...or will we be better off just getting another kind of ticket for the tube..or would a taxi be just as chep for four of us? We're thinking we'll be able to walk everywhere? Eating in Covent Garden Grill on Friday night. Is there anywhere else - cheapish - we should try?
Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated, as we have absolutely no idea!!
Many Thanks, in advance, to all those who reply. xx

yes get an oyster card - it will make your journeys around town cheaper - no matter what tickets you buy - also you pay a deposit of £ 3 on the card but get it back when you hand back the card at the end of your stay here

yeah but dont you have to put at least £5 on a oyster card?

Might be cheaper to just get zone 1 passes.

no - if you go to the ticket office and buy the card then ask how much it is to where you want to go if using an oyster card - put the exact amount on the card go to the ticket machine and bobs your uncle you have got it for half the price of paying cash

I noticed straight away - but you can edit the title!!
:-D

I've no idea really but we got oyster cards for the very few London encounters. It works quite well and there are guys that show you how and where to wave them . Waving them is really important at the end of each journey it seems!!

Have a good time.

It depends what your interests are sweetie.. go ride on The Eye if its working while you're here and take a river boat cruise, a walk down Embankment, Trafalgar Sq, go see a movie at Leicester Square, visit Soho and china town... just enjoy the city.

One thing you'll notice is everything in London goes much faster than compared to Devon ( my Mum is from Devon and I'm now a Londoner ) don't be offput by the London attitude, people here have to be really suspect of others at times and live with the constant pressure of being surrounded by so many others all the time so they try to "block out" any contact from other people, and remember cars will not stop just because you're in the road.. be careful and have a lovely time x x

Thanks Clarityofmind, for that advice! Think we'll just enjoy EVERYTHING!! Got tickets for Priscilla, and Phantom - SO EXCITED!! Can't wait.
So - if you see 4 lost looking souls wandering round next friday/sat/sun...what'll be us...give us a wave!! x

Hey if your here all weekend go to Spitalfields Market on the sunday, FAB, also Brick lane for a curry or head down to the embankment for a wicked walk past all the monuments like the Eye, St pauls cathedral, Tower Bridge and its all free!! I used to live in Devon but moved here 4 uyears ago and its the best city in teh world, have a fab time, just dont egt off the underground and stop outside teh doors when others are trying to get off, so annoying, hehehe, Have fun and walk fast!!

Oh, Spitalfields looks great...will definately go there on Sunday. And hopefully do the walk on friday, before we're all shopped out! Thanks!
So - comfy shoes, walk fast, don't stand near the doors or in the road then!!
