Off-licence chain Threshers is braced for an onslaught of bargain-hunting drinkers as an online discount voucher is downloaded by millions of people.

The 40%-off wine and champagne voucher was intended for suppliers and their friends, but has been distributed widely via blogs, email and chatrooms .....

I just saw that too... reminds me of the starbucks case a while ago, but they actually stopped accepting the voucher (for a free drink) and a lawsuit was filed against them. I don't think its been settled yet but no one figured it would get far.

Good to see that Threshers hasn't pulled the coupon, they're getting a lot of publicity because of it anyway!

It's been in the Hot Deals section for a while now :) Posted by t0m ;-)

But it's not such a good deal as proved on the HUKD thread on this subject...Threshers prices are much higher than the supermarkets and with both Sainsburys and Tesco giving 25% off already discounted wines (buy 6 or more) the better deals are there for most of us...where Thresher will be of value is if you purchase high cost wines ..then the 40% will have its true impact.

It appears from the voucher that you have to buy £500 of booze though - a lot to spend in one go.
#5
It's also on the times online website with a link back to HUKD. :-D

you don't have to buy £500 of booze that is the maximum spend for the discount

It's a shame they got the link wrong though - can someone email them with the right one?
[admin]#8
Just what I was going to say. I've sent the business section an email.
#9
Ah brill admin, hope they update it. It's linking to a travel deals site.
[admin]#10
Yeah no response yet but I guess they get a lot of email in there.

Yeah that was a good point, if they normally have multiple buy discounts going on then the 40% promo isn't going to hit them that hard. Not sure how much high cost wines they stock anyway.

Just got an email - They've fixed the link on the [COLOR=blue]times article[/COLOR], bbut for some reason it's leading to boots as a merchant filter form the front page. Aw well, at least it's going to us :)
[admin]#13
You got an email and I didn't! :P The link is still wrong though.
#14
I emailed their customer services departments. Did you email the press office or something?
[admin]#15
Emailed the Business section yeah (where it appeared).

Here's the reply I got:

Dear Emma

Thank you for your email.

We have tested the link in the article concerned and it is taking you
through to the correct site: [url]www.hotukdeals.com[/url]

Kind regards
Times Online Team
[admin]#17
Yeah it's always worked on the click through, the problem was it says hotdeals.com not hotukdeals.com.

Oh well :) The click through is the important bit.
#18
Well, the previous click through took me to hotdeals.com which is a travel website. That's why I emailed in the first place. I emailed just after you. But yeah, it's the click through that counts.

strange u brought this up again a friend in the pub flashed his Voucher about for this so i had to tell him i kneew bout this for ages..........LOL didnt tell him where i knew it from though loll
[admin]#20
You didn't tell him he could get far better deals by watching out here? ;)

Funny though as this wasn't a spectacularly good deal. They are always 3 for 2 which is 33% off so this was only another 7% off. On HUKD this was spotted right away and better bargains pointed out but in the mainstream media they all went gaga for it.

I saw an article today saying it was a big scheme by Threshers and they're probably right. Threshers probably "leaked" this shocking story to the papers and strung them along. If they really wanted to write about amazing bargains they would do better checking out HUKD any day :D

So I do think this was a massive marketing coup by Threshers and they must be giggling all the way home.

I certainly agree Admin..it was a big publicity stunt that seemed to work.
