Ok folks i eventually just went for this piece of equipment (in link below)

Im just wondering how to get the best out of it? hwat Db levels should they all be, should the back 2 (surround L and R) be higher ? etc should you be able to really hear the surround L and R or are the meant to be quietish until there put to the test in a film?

what sound level set up have you got?

We have a square room and the tv in the corner with the set up as in the picture in the book :) and i must say....its really good !! the bass is superb etc, just need to perfect the sound levels

We didnt buy it from here, we got it from Comet at a discount....£179, reduced from £199....just because it didnt have a box lol took it home wrapped in bubble wrap....which was more fun popping than actually buying the stuff hahah

Girlfriend is also happy coz she got her I-pod dock bit :)

Does it have a sound configuration mic? mine has that and it does the sound automatically. although mine did have the same problems as yours at the start with the surround speakers being quiet, but what i did was go to the sound settings and max the DB levels on every speaker and it works fine now, haha

Find a film with a shot containing rain, and then play with the rear levels until it sounds as if its raining all around you at the same volume ..i think i used bladerunner for this, works a charm.. but yeah apart from atmospheric sounds the rears should be quieter unless the sound is supposed to be behind/to the side of you..if that makes sense?
