I've taken to calling all software apps, just to annoy my fellow IT workers.

Since Apple have been attempting world domination

Anybody who uses Android should check out an app (correct usage :)) called Tech News, has links to loads of sites like lifehacker all in one place.

App is short for application, this has been the case since before Apple existed. I didn't think this would be a big problem for people to figure out.

Whut?

"App" has been in common use since the early 90s, at the very least. Did you never buy a PC mag with a cover floppy full of 'shareware apps' when you were young?

Fair enough :)

Something new that has been getting used recently though is "Solution". Microsoft have been pushing it pretty hard with their last couple of versions of Visual Studio, telling us repeatedly that we're not building applications anymore, we're building solutions. It's utterly, utterly gay, and I'm quite glad it hasn't taken off.

Simon Amstell explained it perfectly.
