Agree pointless. Absolutely pointless in fact.

It would be nice if Virgin carried out the work they need to do on my local exchange so that I can get the speeds advertised. But they aren't carrying out the LLU upgrade that they can do. BT done there bits, now its down to VM...

as more than 70% of its existing broadband customer base has opted for just 2Mb packages.

Nope.. I'd say most have this option as it is all they can get as the UK's infrastructure is useless. Its about time they spent money investing in the whole network not just tiny catchments in London etc,

Will be useful at some point in the future once most devices are using wireless 'N' as standard. I have the 20mb package at the moment, I'm lucky if I get anywhere near 4mb download speed and thats if I'm downloading from a server on the mainland UK that has the same capability...if I'm downloading then I usually get less than 1mb download speed as an average.....

so the 50mb package would be a waste of money for me. simply because none of the devices I have (that I'm aware off) are using wireless 'N' standard, so it would only revert back to 20mb which I already get for a lower price!

Worthwhile considering it for the future tho....it the actual speeds were closer to the advertised speeds then yes, I'm jump on it like a ten-bob hooker. But for the time being, I'll stick with the 20mb package I have.

Good info to know tho as it shows that companys are now upgrading their infrastructure so in the long term it can only be good for the customer.

Why are you paying for 20mb if you never get over 4mb? Why not just downgrade and save some money?

50mb will be 50mb, there won't be any stm (at first anyway), and it will be DOCSIS 3.0 i believe and therefore shouldn't be overloaded for quite some time.

bare in mind that 20mb BB = 2mb a sec download, for some reason virgin set this to 1mb per file, down load 2 files and they'll both come down at 1mb sec = 2mb

however thats not always the case. ive got the 20mb BB and it wasnt till i faffed on with my PC that i got that (no thanks to the VM helpdesk may i add)
