Massive fire in Coventry this morning, 6 factories up in smoke including one with gas bottles that exploded! Ive just spent the last 2 hours gritting a roundabout near me to allow the fire crews to get through! Done my bit this year! lol

The gritting depot is sat behind the factories that went up, they were evacuated and cant get any lorries out.

LOL, can't make that up. Surprised a fire engine cant get through some snow though - did it really need some grit?

The roundabout was blocked with lorries and cars.

That's the one. It quickly spread across the industrial estate, they set up loads of pumping equipment to get water from the canal. You should have seen the gas tanks flying around!

When the southern bypass (A45) was shut one time, I tried to save time by going through the local urban areas in the north of the city. Absolutely horrific. Looked like something from a third world country, and crammed full of benefit cheats.

Ive always said that although Coventry isnt nice on the eye the majority of the people are great.
I grew up in a village in the new forest and there was 0 community spirit yet in Coventry everyone seems to know everyone. As an example in my second year of uni we lived in a house in hillfields which everyone will warn you off but you couldnt meet nicer people than our neighbours.
I now live in a new build apartment which is lovely in itself but I have to agree with vb1, Coventry is an eye sore!

Yes, but you are talking about Foleshill and the wreck that is Hillfields. Also Stoke Aldermoor and Binley
Try Earlsdon

Fact is, all cities have good and bad areas. Bradford was particularly bad from my experiences, but I bet there are others who would point out the good parts

Oh and FYI bassman I agree that everywhere has its good and bad points hence why I pointed out a good point about Coventry and a bad one. It wasnt an attack on Coventry so stop trying to make it out that way.

Starting to realise that from the responses - which is fine, but the other parts in the north are pretty ropey too.

That said, the southern bits seem very nice in places, and Walsgrave is ok if you only mean the bits near the M6. Go too deep away from the main roads and you'll never get out alive.

I lived in Middleborough Road Coventry. The house had rats, moved away after a year of it.
