Have a budget of £600 for an ipad

Options are

16GB + accessories + cash left over
32GB + accessories
64GB + nothing

or

16GB 3G + accessories
32GB 3G + nothing

Would probably rarely use the 3g but for some reason would quite like it...accessories would probably be a case and the SD card adaptor thing

Opinions please...

If we could avoid the usual ipad hate please,if you dont like them feel free to keep that to yourself and carry on regardless

i'd go 16gb+3g+accessories

(i dont really see the point of not having 3g)

32gb and accessories. are you a student or know one that would be willing to go along and buy it for the discount?
#3
I'd get the 32GB 3G + nothing. As you always have the option of having the internet when you're not around a wireless connection. You could wait for the asus eee pad though, thats just been announced and will probably be a lot more versitile.

16Gb is nothing and it'll be filled up so easily especially if you have tv/films on there.
#4
only 3g if you plan to use it outside of your router range. if only at home (like my friend) then no need.
#5
I would go for the 16gb 3g + accessories!
You never know when you might use the 3g ( and will probably regret not getting the new iPhone later!)
It would be nice to get a nice case and the sd card adaptor thing ( :p )
Don't suppose you have any knowledge on hdd's do you? Could you check out my thread please?
And also will you be getting the new iPhone when it comes out?

32gb without 3g.

iPad doesnt seem a very portable device and would look like a bit of a plank taking it around in public.

Use it around the home but if you do take it places then just stop down in a Starbucks, McDonalds or any place offereing free wifi. to use on the go.

thanks..not going to have may films on at once,so 16gb might do fine....not interested in another brand though

I want on... can't justify spending out £600 on one though, especially as I already have an iPhone and iMac!
#10
Glad to see someone else with taste and style.

I got the 32Gb+3g, but wish I had got the 16Gb+3g instead. Make sure you get the official case and camera kit. Jailbreak and bob's your uncle: an amazing device.

I would grab some cheap iTunes vouchers too as you will go mad with Apps!!

Haven't used my iPhone much and my Mac at all since getting one (other than to set it up).

It's better to text with the iPad too, and skype calls work great :)
#12
Wait for version 2?
#13
Also, I got a sim and cut it to size. I now get unlimited free 3G with an iPhone sim (until they stop it). At that point, I will buy another iPhone payg sim

The official Case is good, and you need something until the cheap deal extreme/focalprice tat arrives :-D

As long as you know the APN settings for the sim then your good to go. Any problems you can always PM me. The cutting of the sim is the scary part!! You need to cut through the actual metal, but just a tiny fraction. :)

Have you got a jailbroken iPhone? If so download MyWi this will allow you to tether 3g from the iphone and the iPad will think it's wifi. Therefore no need for 3G.

+1

This is what i plan to do
#17
If you are going to buy one jailbreak it.
#18
not sure but do they have usb slots? Anything wonder if a normal 3g key would work (no doubt with a little playing about)

They don't have a USB slot :)

32GB with 3G, or 16GB with 3G. More storage is great, but once you've got enough for all the TV shows and movies you want to take with you (which usually works out at about 500MB/hour), you might as well go for extra features. For me, fully mobile web access is a godsend, so I'd go for that in a heartbeat.
#21
I probably wouldn't get the 3G version if I wasn't going to use it much, and especially if you've already got an iPhone/Android phone that you can setup for wifi tethering.

I would definitely get the 32Gb version though. Bear in mind the 16Gb is more like 14Gb after taking the OS into account, and some of the apps are pretty weighty - the Wired app is 500Mb for example! You could probably get away with 16Gb if you aren't going to store much music/photos on there, but I like the breathing space of 32Gb personally (only got 4Gb free!).

You can always go for accessories at a later date when you have the cash. I don't like the official Apple case, looks a bit cheap to me and the cover doesn't stay shut.

Yes - the iPad is made my Apple, it wouldn't be a proper Apple product if they didn't screw you with additional hardware :thumbsup::thumbsup:

People are really thinking of buying these? personally, i would save the cash and blow it on a night out, or just throw money in the road, something like that, at least you will get more value out of your cash that way.

Apple again have produced underpowered, underfeatured junk, and people still buy their crap?

I personally dont think you would consider throwing £6 quid let alone £600 in the road.. as Mr Booth requested please keep your views on topic , as I for one want to know the opinions of those who own one and how it runs and even which one to buy

Thanks for your co operation and move along please nothing here for you to see

we have one at work, my comments were very much on topic thankyou very much...

Device is lacking simple things, such as flash...

For the money, as i said, imo it is overpriced, so if you MUST get one, pay the absolute minimum, since even if you went all out, you are still left with a crippled piece of junk

better see you expand on the topic and you have given me food for thought .. so explain the lack of flash implications please and is there something other than flash that can be used ?
#32
With the Tegra 2 devices just around the corner it may be better to wait and see.

yes but you see, i really didn't have the energy or will to explain all of this hehe, but it seems i was unable to make a quick opinion and escape.. however, it lacking flash isn't the most major dissapointment about this, i personally love my gadgets, but apple don't even try, they know people buy it anyway..

I am more annoyed by the fact that this thing has a 4:3 aspect ratio, so watching wide screen videos is pointless unless u enjoy black borders..
and no HDMI out.... no OLED screen. the lack of flash means a lot of websites wont load correctly, or even work at all..

Also, no simple stuff like USB support, you cannot even multi task, it is one app at a time, may as well be in the 80's, and even then the commodore amiga could multitask.

it is just a device of missed opportunity, i expect the iPad 2 out in about 3 years will have one more feature added to keep you hooked, maybe a small speed increase, and it will be an extra 300..

go for 1 with cash left over so you can pay for your connection.......otherwise id say its pretty pointless

OS4 can Multitask, HDMI out isn't really necessary as it's made for you watching on the iPad itself, 4:3 ratio is fine, the film still plays - there are black borders on TVs, PC monitors and cinemas, does that make them rubbish? If they allowed full USB support on the iPad they would lose control of the device to hackers and modders, as Apple are all about trying to stop the modding community. Jailbreaking will soon let that USB come out of its shell (hopefully).

Seems like you are trying to clutch at a couple of straws here mate, personally I'm not a fan of the iPad myself, but you could do a lot worse for a bit of fun.

My point is more the lack/ignorance of features, and cutting corners which apple love to do, to save cash, yet still charge you a premium for it..

Why should u need a 3rd party app just to get a basic feature support on a 500 quid+ device

Go ahead and find me a way out for the other missing features

Apple don't like Flash - simple as that. They have some good reasons for wanting to see the back of it, and some not good reasons. But moaning about it is like moaning about the fact you can't put Windows XP on it. It wasn't going to happen.

Lack of USB - doesn't bother me. Not quite sure what I realistically need it for.

The price is fine in my opinion.

Edited the post above ^^^

Plus saying "it should already be on it" is against the point - there is a way of getting flash on the iPad isn't there? Apple always charge a premium for all of their products as all the electronics Apple make are done in house so that they know what they are putting in it and makes the customer contempt in knowing the thing they are buying is stable and controlled, personally I would pay a premium for that any day.
#39
Fair enough, you guys continue paying premium prices for sub standard outdated hardware, i know i won't.. it is your prerogative

You did it with the iPhone, so no reason to stop now.

Flash is the least of my concerns as i said, it is more the principle.
