60GB PS3 not recognising the Bluray/Games/DVDs

Hi everyone, need your help please.

Has anyone else had this problem. I have the original 60GB PS3, bought on day of release and believe I have kept in the best possible way. Never had any problems until today. Was as usual playing FIFA10 while playing online the commentary stopped but finished the game. The PS3 then hung up on me, so restarted the PS3.
Since then the PS3 starts, all ok, however as soon as I insert a disc in (Bluray, DVD or games) its not spinning any more. Although I can see a spinning sign on the top right hand corner on my TV.
I am absolutely gutted!
Have tried google - mixed answers - most advice to open it and clean the lens. But I cant understand why will it be the lens as the drive is not spinning (or atleast I can hear the obvious spin).
If its going to be calling Sony - can someone give me a contact number.
Thanks

Why do you need someone to give you the contact number for Sony, can you not use your initiative and like look on the Sony PS3 website for the support number?

Bluray death.. The disc won't spin because the drive can't 'see' it. If it's over 12 months old and you have no extended warranty you're looking at an expensive repair...

Have a look at how many are dead and for sale on ebay

Sony will want about £120 to swap your console for a reconditioned one.
Cheaper option is to buy a replacement drive unit.

They will replace the drives on these for about £99 which comes with 3 months warranty, mine went this way last year, no problems since.

You are right, thats exactly what they have said. Now I am wondering why should I pay 120 to get a old refurbished ps3 with 3 month warranty, when maybe I can get a brand new one for £200 with 12 month warranty?

I am really ****** off at the service they are giving us. I paid £425 for mine on launch day, this is the stupid service one gets.

Any good trying Amazon out, as I bought it from them just under 3 years ago?
