The retail price on the European release day (23 March 2007) was £425.00, although some retailers were offering bundles of console + 3 x game titles for over £600!

When the 80Gb model was announced, and supplies of the 60Gb model were not being restocked (from 22 August 2007), the prices of the original console dropped to around £300-£350 (depending on the retailer you picked). Towards Christmas that year they rose again with some PlayTrade, Amazon Marketplace & eBay sellers asking over £800!

Around 12 months ago, the typical price you would expect to pay would be £200-£250 here at HotUKDeals, but the relatively recent availability of the "Slim" (120Gb & 250Gb) models has knocked the prices down again.

My household has two 60Gb models; the first bought on the day of the release, the second was purchased for £250 in November last year as it was bundled with 10 PS3 titles & 2 Blu-ray Disc movies. Around half of the extra items have been sold on so far, and this has offset the outlay by approximately £60 (after postage costs). If all the extra items were sold, at the "going rate" I see regularly at HotUKDeals (and other forums), the net cost would be around £120 for the console (in the original box, in near-perfect condition, with manuals, cables, and SIXAXIS controller).

Depending on the condition of your console's casing, and history (is it still the same console you bought new, or have you had to repair it [and, hence, it may be a reconditioned unit]?), I would suggest you may struggle to get more than £200 for it now (assuming you have the original packaging, manuals, SIXAXIS controller, and USB charging cable) based on the prices of new "Slim" models. An average price to aim for would be in the £140-£160 range, possibly a little higher if you have one or two used games to add to the sale.

If you were thinking of upgrading to a newer model then it may be worth your while trading in your existing console at GAME or Gamestation as you may not get the best price for it, but at least you'll manage to get something back. CEx(.co.uk) stores may also take the cnsole at lower price than you may be able to sell it privately.

Countless times I see 60Gb models being offered for sale (at too high a price) & the seller gets an initial flurry of interest, declines the "reasonable" offers (as they too feel that the price paid & resultant selling price are too far apart) & ends up not gaining a sale at all.

Good luck!

BFN,

fp.
