to those who have six weeks off in the summer due to (most probably) school holidays, what have you been doing to fill your time (apart from going abroad, because I know a lot of people will just put that as an answer, but not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to go abroad as I fully understand and appreciate). I also appreciate that those who work in paid employment do not have six weeks off over the summer.

Perhaps the op should have worded her chatting differently - so, to those who have six weeks off in the summer due to (most probably) school holidays, what have you been doing to fill your time (apart from going abroad, because I know a lot of people will just put that as an answer, but not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to go abroad as I fully understand and appreciate). I also appreciate that those who work in paid employment do not have six weeks off over the summer, so this friendly thread doesn't really apply to you. Sorry.

What you doing working at Haven - I thought you were a hairdresser? :?

Was made redundant a little while ago, so unless I can find another job, which is proving dificult at the moment, it look like I'll have more than six weeks off.

We joined the National Trust, never thought I would as it always seemed a "sad" thing to do but couldn't have been more wrong. If you join through quidco you get 12 months for the price of 9 so a family is £57 and you then get £20 off through quidco. Alternatively, someone mentioned on here a week or so ago that they joined through New Zealand's national trust for £19 and this then gets you into the UK Trust but up to you if you want to risk this. You then get into any National Trust place free and there are some great ones around with places for kids, we are fortunate enough to live only ½hour from Belton House which has a HUGE adventure playground that the kids could spend all day in, we take a picnic and have already more then made up the original fee and have the rest of the year to go.

Take a look at their website to see if there is anything decent near you that the kids would enjoy and if so, take the plunge and join. It's really satisfying to drive past all the queueing cars and get in quicker!! Sorry to all you queuers but you should join too!!
