hey guys

over the last week or so my 80gb ps3 has started freezing when i play MW2 online, this usually happens at the end of a match when the scores come up,or when a game is about to begin,at the end of the pre game lobby.

never had any issues before and my ps3 has the latest update, but its had that for a while now with no issues before.

my years warranty is up in the middle of july so contacting sony is always at the back of mind just now

any help or info would be great

1st thing to do is to back up your hard drive.

Best way is to back it up on a portable external drive.
It won't help your problem, but at least you will have your data saved for when it goes tits up.

Once your machine is dead, you can not retrieve any data from the hard drive.

I would send it back to Sony for a free replacement.

No idea, just thinking if it were an Xbox 360.

Could be starting to overheat.is the fan running a lot? i took mine apart yesterday to clear out all the dust, and boy, was it dusty in there! its now running silent again, even in this nice warm weather.

Backing the PS3 up won't help with your current problem but if the machine does fail entirely (which sounds possible) at least it means you have your data safe and can be transferred to another machine. You simply need a FAT formatted device (either flash drive or hard drive), you can either do a full system back up or you can manually copy each save game by selecting it and choose copy. Trophies aren't included in the backup so make sure you sync them by opening the trophies section and choosing sync.
