85 will be more than good enough for gaming, 85mbps is faster than your broadband connection will ever be. The 200Mbps benefit home networks.

standard ethernet speed is 100mb, but do you get that speed, no. powerline adapter at 85mb plus interference, also need to consider extension plugs etc

It's not gonna affect on line gaming though, which was his question.

How do you manage to stream sky through them?
#6
Ahh got ya, slingbox haven't heard of them for ages.

Powerline adaptors can get some rather low speeds in practice (< 10mbps) but as others have said even this will be more than enough than the 1-2mbps needed for most online games.

However, I've no idea what the latency/reliability is like.

id forget both and just get 500mbs to make sure

Ive got a set of 85mb powerlines in me bag right this min , im waiting to finish work to set them up. BUT the bloke in maplin has put a doubt on them for me........ he says they both have to be plugged into the same mains ring circuit, and looking up mains rings on the net i found a house usually has a seperate ring for up and downstairs agh! Anyone shed more light on this, i saw one post elsewhere that says the worked on his despite the seperate mains rings. Anyone clued up?

generally the only thing that stops them is very poor, non copper wiring or the consumer unit so separate rings off a single consumer unit will be ok as long as every thing else is up to scratch

Yep can confirm these workin 100% over 2 seperate rings. very fast the streaming to xbmc downstairs is instant now whereas it used to cache for 5-6 secs over wireless and was unpredictable playback on busy scenes with stuttering, perfect now.
