95p for a can of Coke!!!!

Was in WH Smiths at lunch time today perusing their chiller cabinet and was nearly knocked over when I saw the price of a single 330ml can of coke zero....95p!!!!

That's almost £3 per litre!!

And this wasn't dannnn sarff either - it's Chester prices!!

It's must be darn expensive when it's cheaper to buy petrol than coke!

LOL well yeah - its WHSmiths. I get this everyday - you don't like the price - don't buy it!
#2
Don't you worry - I certainly didn't buy it! - and the chiller was strangely full of stock too!!
When did we move from 50p a can to 95p though?
That's the point i'm trying to get across - it's not like they're charging 60p or 70p - they want 95p for a can!!! Nearly 100% inflation!

50p.. that was a while ago now. 95p really is train station vending level of pricing though. Go to wilkos instead, usually a bogof or 2 for x on 500ml at very little more than this... or buy a 2ltr own brand for an awful lot less than £3 a litre.

WHSmiths at a train station/airport? Never really look in Smiths for food really but that's extortionate!
How much for a 500ml bottle dare I ask?
#5
the bottles were £1.26 something or other - and this wasn't at the train station either - twas the high street!
On a side point - the best i've seen recently was some 'imported' pepsi 600ml bottles ( i think ) at 3 for a pound in the.....poundshop!
#6
Farmfoods usually good for the imported stuff, as are lidl/aldi.
#7
The high street and travel (train stations and airports) are pretty much on par with each other come to pricing now

Just to put it in perspective - imagine going to Tesco's and putting a 2litre bottle of coke in your basket only to be charged £5-£6 for it!
#10
Hmmm..its rare to see 50p cans in any newsagent type shops these days and 75p for 500ml has gone too, but yes 95p is more of a train station/middle of a shopping center price. I couldn't find anything under £1 the other day - not even the water!! So just left it.
#11
I travel on the train quite a lot and just thought the prices were generally more expensive in there due to convenience, didn't know that they are the same in the high street now.
#12
Anyway - rant over - 6 hours later and I think i might be over it!
#13
Out of curiosity I had to nip over to Tesco.com just to see how much a single can costs there....
38p

In newcastle, I don't pay more than 55p for a can at a newsagents or 89p seems the standard for a 500ml bottle, I grab them when I'm out and about. Occasionaly get shops with 2 x imported coke for £1, wont ever buy imported coke for the same price as they sell other non imported bottles.

oh dear, I appear to have inadvertantly started some sort of bidding war for carbonated drinks.

(it's not often you get to say that sentence)

Agreed. Pretty much the only thing I will buy in WH Smiths on a train station or airport is a newspaper. They cant rip you off with those. They ar however excellent libraries for magazines;-)

In vencie we were warned not to eat or even sit down in st marks square as its supposed to be one of the most expensive places to eat in the world, a couple on the trip did just to film the bill for 2 manky toasted cheese sarnies and 2 cokes for 36 quid! (cokes were apparently 9 quid!).
Mind you theywere just showing off so glad they got stung!
