Anyone But England

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8733373.stm

Some sensible and some not so sensible comments within...... Worth a Read!

Police visited a Aberdeen clothes shop to warn staff that a T-shirt on display bearing the ABE slogan could be construed as racist. Predictably, the store would go on to report a surge in orders for the garment.

Racist? Banter? Insecurity? Inferiority Complex? Jingoism?

You decide!

#6
the shop the police visited in february was actually in edinburgh(on the royal mile) so they have their facts wrong there.

sports direct are also selling tshirts with the slogan "I support 2 teams-Scotland and whoever England are playing"

Haha... I'd not seen that one! Amusing I guess, but clearly just banter and not as nasty.

Yes. I'd not seen this before. You should have posted it if you were aware already!

BTW... you didnt answer the question.

Why would I bother - plenty of others have been rabbiting on about it for the past few weeks. It's been on every thread to do with football top offers, amongst a ton on the misc.

Surprised given the time you spend on here you haven't seen it.

To answer your questions:

No, yes, no, no.

guv-out of interest-if a club team is playing in europe who ARENT your club do you support them against foreign opposition or do you want them to lose?

A lot of threads I have read on here seem to indicate that man utd fans/arsenal/chelsea/liverpool etc take great delight in one another LOSING in europe-seems to be a very common thing.

So there really is no difference to me in that attitude and that of Scots who want England to lose-I dont get any of it tbh.

Support ALL british teams in europe, support all British countries against foreign opponents-thats my attitude. The only time I want England to lose is when Scotland play them. The only time I want rangers or celtic to lose if if hibs play them.

You can be Scottish and British at the same time-I know I may be the minority,But I am one million percent behind England in the world cup.
#12
Just have Team GB then its all sorted nice and inclusive for all the UK, although that will bring out all the bigots......

Obviously not as much as you think then. Ive not heard of "ABE" before.

To answer your questions:

No, yes, no, no.

So this obvious hate being shown here... It's because I'm English and will be supporting my country in the World Cup, isn't it? (Awaits the predictable response.)

I always want them to win... Apart from Ars*nal, and they are French anyhoo.

If there is no difference, you should all be wanting us to win.... I want Scotland to do well. (Well I would!!!!!)

Guv,

Did you forget to append a question mark to your tag ?

Don't go on the wind up today and attempt to confuse banter with racism, there's enough nonsense about at the moment already.

I was making assumptions based upon the fact you have nearly 27k posts, and have been on the site about the same time as me.

I really don't know what to say to that - other than to use one of your well used phrases:

WOW - just wow!

I don't have any hate at all for you - if I did it wouldn't have anything to do with your nationality. I like winding you up from time to time, that's all.

All that said - I genuinely think you're playing dumb here and are trying to incite an argument.
#20
Saw it months ago. Its only a bit of banter - looks fab worn with a kilt though

There's even a facebook group called ABE which is taking it a bit too far I think - haven't even wasted my time reading any of it so no idea what it says.

Guv,

You have shown your true colours. I thought you were a little wiser than your OP suggests. It's nothing more than rivalry between 2 teams/nations who share the longest rivalry in international football. To attempt to take it down another line is poor, very poor indeed.

If you have received an abusive pm and wish to complain, do it through the relevant channels.

But I'm all upset now. Boo hoo...... It's real tears you know. :w00t:

PS.. Please keep this On Topic. You dont seem to have got the hang of that itt.

Now.... as far as "true colours" aSB... as I've already said, I'd genuinely not heard about this shop being raided. Obviously the police didnt see it as "friendly banter / rivalry"...... so dont shoot the messenger. Many of the remarks on that page are actually very heartening to read.

Would a Team GB include any players who weren't English?

Aaron Ramsey, Gareth Bale and, um.....

But I will say this - I would definitely support Scotland in a major football competition.

(I say that safe in the knowledge that Scotland will never make the finals of an international tournament).

Craig Gordon - definitely better than any keeper in the English squad at the moment.

Or you mean your lack of knowledge, bearing in mind the fact we have qualified for several already. Lest we forget 1978, when we did qualify and you didn't, remarkably.:)

Times have changed. Scotland might have qualified in the past but the whole UEFA region has become far more competitive and you'll struggle to get a favourable seeding, which means you'll always be the third best team in your group (at best).

You may get the odd European Championship spot, which will be nice for you. But it's no World Cup:thumbsup:

EDIT: just seen your Euro 2012 group....how about 2016?

To be fair, I dont think he has. Its getting harder to qualify than it ever has been and your world ranking is simply a further handicap on top of not being very good.

But lets hope you do get there one day.

You've got to think though, by the time Scotland get to an international competition they could've just moved south, lost the accent, improved their health and met a nice English girl and pretty much consider themselves 'English'.

I'm well aware of this. I was taking you to task on your poorly constructed remark - which made it out like Scotland hadn't qualified for a major final.

The seedings move continuously - it was only a few years ago we were actually seeded above England. I'm surprised you didn't know this what with your 'knowledge' of the game...

That, plus the comment you made about no other player than an English one would make the GB team - which, as is your want, was edited to spare your blushes.

wouldnt it be nice if scotland just got their own media, and stopped bitching over the garden fence.
absolutely nothing wrong with english commentators talking about england, problem is,through quirks of our british union, scotland has to listen to england talking.
cant you get scottish commentators for STV, or the bbc games,
we dont want you to have to endure our commentators, seriously, just causes resentment
but im sure 'some' scots would hunt down the english commentary anyway,to reinforce their bitterness
