A bit of plumbing advice

Hi guys,

I need a bit of advise on plumbing. Basically my radiator valve head(DRAYTON TRV4) is completely broken. The heater is on full blast because of no temperature control. I know I can buy a new one but as we are entering into summer, I don't think I need heating until Sept this year.

Is there any way I can turn that radiator off without switching off whole central heating system (Weirdly my landlord is not willing to turn off central heating). I just wanna isolate it. Since the head(Knorb) has completely came off, I can see Pressure pin is sticking out. I tried different method to put the pin down to block the hot water going in there but no success so far.

It's getting really hot and I am sweating as I type this message. Help needed urgently.

Open a window? Or is your landlord called Mr Fritzl?

there is a manual valve the other end of the radiator usually

You need to turn the nut, not press the pin down.

Since it is broken, get the landlord to replace it, they cost less than a tenner.

(btw, it's advice, not advise)

^^^^ you might need to pull white cap off to get to valve then you need a small shifting spanner plyers if not too tight then turn clockwise until shut.

you can also try and get hold of a a blank that just screws onto the top of the valve, pusing the pin down these are used when removing rads for painting and are supplied with the valves..but as someone said, just trn the other one off, that'll stop the circulation

Drayton ones don't, they more like £25

Just shut the lockshield down (valve on the other end).

I am wondering what a korb, or a knorb is

Do you have to replace it with a Drayton?

Well that is the question I would like to ask as well. Drayton are about £20+ in Home Base. I looked at the cheaper alternatives as well. I was not 100% sure so I asked the customer service guy. Surprise..surprise.. he got no clue if the other knob will fit or not. Unhelpfully, he said they won't take it back if it is not compatible.

No you don't but going from the op's message I would say changing a rad valve would be beyond them, but simply screwing a new head on just might be doable. The heads from different manufacturers are not interchangeable, you have to use the head with the same valve.

You guys are really helpful. That's why I use HUKD for everything. I have looked at the above answers and I'd like to see if I can turn the manual valve off.
Please look at the pic below. It is the valve on the other side of the radiator. Do I have to remove the cap off or just turn clockwise on ring ?

Thanks for that, you can never know too much.

Yes, take the screw out of the top, remove the plastic cover and turn the valve as described by hibees up the page.
