I was just so shocked to tune into Sky channel 171 and see awful use of language at 6.30pm. I've never complained to Ofcom before, but today I simply had to!

Programme title:

Stonecold TV

Date(s) of broadcast:

20/05/2009

Time(s) of broadcast:

6.30pm - 7pm

Channel / station:

MyChannel (Sky Channel 171)

Subject:

Foul Language at 6.30pm?

Description:

Hello,

I had the misfortune of tuning into channel 171 - MyChannel - on Sky this evening. During the 15 minutes I watched this channel (6.30pm-6.45pm) I witnessed the use of the word "f**k" well over 40 times. The word "s**t" was used at least 10 times. The words "god damn" were used at least once.

The show "clip" was titled "Bill & Todds Drunk Adventure" and showed some American men messing around under the influence. I can only assume the program, titled "Stonecold TV" shows clips of this nature (Bill & Todds Drunk Adventure being just one of them within the 30 minutes)

I have no issue with a program of this low quality being aired later in the evening, when children cannot see it - however I think it was completely out of line to broadcast a television show that contained swearing of this level at 6.30pm - when a large number of children could easily tune in without restriction.

The program did not have a age certificate, I was not requested to enter my PIN to access the content - thus I can only assume tens of thousands of children just watched drunk Americans swear at least 60 times.

I'm sure you'll agree this a massive breach of regulations, showing this kind of foul material at such a family orientated time of the day. What makes it worse is this channel is quite "low" in the Sky channel ordering, and thus very likely to be "browsed to" by any child with access to their Sky television.

WikiPedia suggests that the channel is controlled by InView TV, a UK based operator and licensee of over 50 channels worldwide.

Many thanks,

XXXX

I watched it for ten minutes, mainly out of shock. It didn't offend me, I love un-pc shows like Family Guy / Jackass etc.

I just have god children and know it would have been easy for them to watch something like this.

I hope someone gets a big fine! :whistling:

And what would've happened when they heard the swear words?

Would their tiny little heads have exploded or imploded?

By the way, I hear there's cotton wool on BOGOF in Tesco. You may wish to stock up.

Because Mary Whitehouse couldn't get laid?

Because people are afraid of words?

Maybe because I'm not that bothered by words, I'm baffled when others are.

I can honestly say that I've never been so offended by something on tv that I've bothered to complain.

I'm not saying that makes me a better person than you, or that I'm more mature or even that I have a respectable sense of perspective.

I should, but I'm much too modest to do that and that's part of why I'm great.

Probably weren't that many kids watching tbh, they were probably all in their rooms on the net looking up porn and chatting to paedo's on MSN.

I'd think kids will hear more bad language outside your door, at the park, shopping lol

I thought it was something mega bad lol

maxmix

But I suppose it was a bit early for the prog to be shown, I wonder if they will get anyone else writing...

It seem half the people on hear are either teachers or the other type of person who watches kids at a PLAYGROUND!

Kids or even adults shouldn't have to hear that sort of language, i mean fair enough adults can just change the channel but kids wont and their minds are like sponges.

I think the people with negative posts just don't have kids or want everyone's offspring to be like theirs or worse.
#27
good on u for complaining. no need for that language at that time of the day.

If a child's brain is like a sponge, why not teach them that a word can't hurt them. Contextualise bad language, maybe even point out that sometimes it can be quite funny.

Because that would take a balanced and positive view to parenting. It's far easier to simply blame everything else for their own failings.

It's blindingly obvious that you're not a parent. That 'little' incident has had a lasting impact on my son as since then, I've not been able to get him back into a supermarket as he goes absolutely crazy. And before you tell me to just gaffer tape him into a trolley and tell him to shut up, this is completely normal behaviour for a child with autism that has had a distressing experience. Whilst you may find it amusing, I'm certainly not, especially as this has given me yet another problem to add to the long list of issues we're currently working on with him, so perhaps you can keep your unwanted comments about my parenting style to yourself

Oh boo hoo.

I was commenting about parenting styles in general, not yours specifically. Looks like I have touched a raw nerve yet again
