It started this after noon and has been getting worse and I think it might be affecting other programmes and makin things run a little slower.
I have done a virus and spyware check and they are okay.
Any help would be appreciated:)

Does it say SP3 in the update versions ? There have been weirdos & wondefuls about this patch

No haven't updated windows explorer but installed a newer version of Nero Express a couple of days ago, downloaded a few dvd converter programmes but uninstalled them because they were rubbish. It all started this afternoon when I tried to watch something on my media centre, the screen froze and the sound went jumpy, the screen then turned back and it took me ages to turn the media centre off. that's when it all started
#10
I presume that you've just shut down and started up again?
#11
my friend had a similar problem.. it was a problem with her codecs on the Roxio software.
if you click on the report info when you get the error, it should tell you what exactly is causing the problem..?
#12
Restore to a pre nero date and go from there?
#13
I think I might have to try uninstalling Nero if nothing else works.
I have just been on windows and had a couple of updates and it is now installing XP3, I thought I was set up for auto updates, but I guess not.
I have clicked on the report info and it doesn't tell me anything .. it all looks like it's in code or something!
I have lost count of how many times I have switched off the PC at the mains to stop it freezing up!
I have not had that pop up since windows started updating, so fingers crossed!

Thanks for your help everyone. I will be goin to bed as soon as windows has finished installing, I am falling asleep sat up here! :)
#15
Sorry to disappoint but I don't think Win XP SP3 will help, its just mostly security fixes, so Ive read.

I would go with the other suggestion on here to restore windows to a date before you installed Nero.

If that doesn't work, get rid of windows and install ubuntu. :whistling:

I think that some of the codecs which come with Microsoft windows xp media centre edition have been uninstalled when you have tried to uninstall the rubbish downloaded dvd converter programs.

the only solution to this if you want a stable pc in the long run is...back up all your data and install your windows from scratch!

Not true.

Just do a system restore to pre-nero date then see how it goes then reinstall nero again.

Yes most likely a few essential files were accidently deleted when uninstalling if they were also used by the software you uninstalled, some tell you are you sure you want to delete file in case in use by another program some dont.
#19
I had that on my media center pc
was a bug with my Hauppauge tv card drivers and media center
the way i fixed it was to update the tv card drivers and to do the media center roll up 2 update on windows update

if you dont have a tv card just disable the service in services

you can check your codecs using Microsoft's utility here which should help narrow down the problem...

Did you fix it?

Yes, its sems to be running okay now. Uninstalled loads of useless downloads and programmes, updated windows and all is well now.
I am not going to open 'media centre' just in case it starts up again!
Thanks again! :)
