A rather pointless post about car insurance....

Just had my renewal through from Elephant. Last year it was £255.40, this year....

£244.10

How odd is that? Considering everything else seems to be going up in price.

Maybe they just figure it's a minimal gamble as I won't be able to afford petrol to actually drive the damn thing anywhere LOL.

I thought car insurance was supposed to go down every year as your no claims goes a year higher?

Only up to 5/6 years then you hit the plateau and it doesn't change. I've got 11;-) Makes me wonder sometimes how much I could get insured for on a standard shopping trolley type motor. Probably about £50

It was a nice surprise though as I was expecting it to be around £350 this year :)
#4
Sure you know this already but before accepting it be sure to look around and go for cashback if possible before just accepting their offer.

We got our renewal through from Admiral and decided to shop around to see if we could get it cheaper, went on confused.com and the best quote was £150 cheaper........it was with Admiral !!!!!! Phoned them and they matched the quote
#6
Well now quidco have sorted out my £100 cashback from Prudential then my car insurance will only cost me £21.60 for the year.

I can only get insurance over the phone as the car has various modifications...

Hardly any insurance companies will touch it for some reason and if they do they ask for silly money which is why i've been with Elephant (Admiral whatever) for years. By the way they did try it on a few years ago by hiking my premium by about £80, so I called them and they took £100 off

try churchill they should beat your renewal quote then you get cashback through quidco so you might get it below £300.renewals are generally higher than if you where asking for a quote as a new customer.i would be cheeky and go throuh your existing insurance and see what online quote they give you too.some people have saved over £100 that way

Just ran the details on confused. Churchill refused to quote (only 10 out of 57 would give a price:roll:). Best price was £294 from the Post Office, Elephant wanted £370. See told ya, they like me as a continuing customer :-D

When I used to spend all my money on mods for my car I used to use directline as most companies didn't want to know. I also lived in a high crime rate post code.

Ah but them days are gone. Got myself a Citroen C1. All my friends where laughing saying what a silly little car. Now who's laughing, I don't spend £80 on petrol a week, £800 on insurance and £200 odd on tax. No 60+ MPG, £20(after CB) insurance and £35 on tax!

The only bad thing is they always expect me to get the first round in!

I'm guessing the named driver trick. It works but i'm led to believe that insurance companies consider it obtaining insurance by deception if they find out:whistling:

fully comp. 2nd driver on the car :) own my own no claims bonus.
and how is it deception ? my mum drives the car more than me :(
and yeah my car does actually look similar to that picture

As long as they're actually driving it. Most of the time though it's a case of insure the car under named driver status when the person with no claims has no intention of ever driving it. Then when the inevitable prang happens the insurance company wants to know why a 55 yo mum decided to fit an outrageous bodykit to her car and have it sprayed in a flip paint job  Trust me, it happens a LOT :giggle:
#17
LMAO.
bad time :P
lets hope that doesnt happen :P

p.s my mum wud love a body kit i reckon?

The car in question (and yes I know, the mirrors do look w***).

Nice Car...I had a MKI Mexico (1.7 with twin 40's, high lift cam Janspeed exhaust) a MKII RS2000 With Fishnet Recaros 2.1 with a 3.0 Capri Carb, and then a MKIII RS1600i, wish I had kept any of those, particularly the Mexico, my missus actually over took my RS in that..it was bloody quick and sounded gorgeous, company cars since my mid 20s!!
I like fords...but haven't had one in years!

My all time favourite though....Hartge BMW 3series with 2.7 custom engine....very very fast!!

Give us a wee rundown on yours.

I've never had anything 'exotic' tbh, thought about it lots of times but at the end of the day I like to stick with what I know, and being 6'6" does sort of limit me in the driving department, which is a shame  I wouldn't mind an RS1600i though:whistling:

I wish... No hold on I don't wish at all as that would mean i'd be paying over 1k to drive a 1l pos:whistling:

Helps when your dad owns a garage, we could use it after closing to work on our cars...minis with austin 1850 engines in them etc....mine were always the escorts....I would love a MKII RS 1800 twin cam...if I win the lottery....pity my Dad got divorced and lost the lot!

Have you reached some sort of special age Shengis, where you are deemed more sensible and less likely to crash??

Dunno, but I just drove from Ashford to the Maidstone/Chatham turnoff on the M20 following an AM Vantage. Lets just say the clock wasn't on double figures :whistling:

I'm a bit of a nutter, but 11 years no claims says it all really. Time and place and all that, something the young 'uns need to learn from some of the stupid driving, crashes and rolled cars i've seen:thinking:

Sounds quite naughty, I'm thinking trail of disaster in your wake.
So perhaps 11 years is the magic number wher you start to get a reduction in premiums. I have so many close calls on the rural roads around here- I'm giving in to road rage soon, where I will turn around and confront one of the morons who think that driving is all about going around a blind corner as fast as possible and to hell with the traffic coming the other way.

Those are the idiots you see parked under a tractor trailor..or with the skid marks that end in a ditch....I did an advanced driving course which was interesting, always remember to drive like a 17 year full of testosterone is coming the other way
