Ok, I am currently trying to sell a necklace on gumtree. It is worth £650 and I have it listed as £350. It is not brand new. Just received this email....

"Hello There,Thanks for the fast response..i am actually buying the item for myhusband abroad and i will pay you 700GBP for the cost of the item andthe postage abroad through Royal Mail..so pls kindly take the item offgumtree and send me your name and paypal e-mail for fast payment..i look forward to your fast response..thanks"

Now, scammer straight away? I e-mailed back and said that if she paid me by paypal 'gift' then I would think about sending it.

My question is, can they reverse a paypal gift payment for any reason?

I think they can probably still do a chargeback thing even if it's sent as a gift?

Whats the time frame on the charge back thing?
#12
Have you considered taking it into a jewellers to see how much they would offer for it?

Or like cash converters etc?

Cash convertors are total rip offs hun, I was thinking of a jewellers but I have never sold any expensive jewellery before and I don't really know what jewellers to take it into or what to do if you know what I mean, the only jewellers I know around my way are H.Samuel and Beaverbrooks

I'd imagine there are little independant ones, google it and see, you could always phone them and ask if they are interested in buying some jewellery before you go into the shop, that way saves embarrassment, if they say aye and dont offer you what your wanting as you obviously have a figure in mind then you can just say you'll think about it.

Hi Munnski, I took some broken jewellery to a local jewellers and was very pleased with the amount of cash I got given, if you feel embarassed just walk in ask if they buy gold, then ask what they are paying at the moment, you just need to say ok, I shall come back-up to you then, the jeweller I used said he was happly to look at things and will advise if its better to scrap or try and sell it 2nd hand.

You will get a great email to your email address saying you have been paid by paypal it will all look good until you look in your paypal account and nothing there its a scam thats been around for a long time. Dont even bother contacting them back just delete and move on.
