You can demand a new one, whether they will or not is down to the stores policy, they can offer you a replacement part and repair, or a refund at their discretion.
So push to get one of the above^^

Cheers tinkerbell i was'nt sure because the man said as its over 6 months old he cant do anything so i was woundering if i should go to the manufacturer

But the manufacturers don't have to do anything.
I would go to trading standards

Don't seem to have a U.K website,so then I would contact the Canadian one for info.

I would keep on at the shop though.

Go back again and tell them they are wrong your contract is with the retailer not the manufacturer, you want to speak to management and be polite but firm.

^^This if no joy.

yes i might ask my dad to come wih me for that extra bit of support

As tinkerbell said, your contract is with them and not the manufacturer and you usually get 12months guarrantee on things. Go into a different shop that sells the same one as you have and mess with it. If it does the same thing, it may be a general fault with them all, if it dosn't , you know yours is definitely faulty. Check out the internet for reviews on it and familiarise yourself with other things that people say. Also find a different model at a similar price and know all you can about it so you can ask for that one if you decide you do not want a replacement of the one you currently have. The more you know about your particular make and a similar brand, the better, they make just think that they cant pull the wool over your eyes cos you know what you are talking about. Definitely take your dad! and stand your ground.

Good luck, hope you get it sorted quickly! :)

The majority of stores give 12 months guarrantee so I would dig your heels in until you get the result you are after.
