This was passed on to me from an official person in the NHS,

this seems to be a growing trend !

For your information, a couple of weeks ago, in the odeon cinema, Festival Park, a person sat on something sharp in one of the seats.

When she stood up to see what it was, a needle was found poking through
the seat with an attached note saying, "you have been infected with HIV".

The Centers for Disease Control in Birmingham, reports similar events have taken place in several other cities recently. All of the needles tested HAVE been found positive for HIV. The CDC also reports that needles have been found in the coin return areas of pay phones and coke machines. Everyone is asked to use extreme caution when confronted with these types of situations. All public chairs should be thoroughly but safely inspected prior to any use. A thorough visual inspection is considered the bare minimum. Further more,

they ask that everyone notify their family members and friends of the potential dangers, as well. Thank you.

The previous information was sent from Hanley police station to all of the local councils in the Staffs area and was interdepartmentally dispersed. We were all asked to pass this to as many people as possible!

urban myth aparently

had me worried
Good resource Designz, I recommend that site to everyone who gets these kind of email forwards :)
Thats scary
Thats scary

It's an urban myth, made up to scare people [as already said above]. Some sad people thinking it's cool to frighten whoever they can.
thank for the info, i will pass this on to the sender,
sorry if i have worried yous all but with 4 kids i was panicky,

sorry again
No need for sorry fizziebabes, it's natural to be worried by these things + you were just trying to pass on your concerns for everyone else

So thanks for being thoughtful!

I usually find you can identify these "spoof" type items by looking for two pointers:

1) They stress over and over that they come from an official source - in this case the message mentions the NHS AND the Police just for good measure.

2) They urge you to pass the message on to as many people as possible.

Always sure signs!!
Centers for Disease Control is an American institution (as you can tell from the spelling) and certainly doesn't have any offices in Birmingham.
thanks for the updates, i got the e.mail from my siter-in-law who is a health visitor, she was sent it through internal mail. thats why i said an official source.
I sent her back the link posted above so she can look into it and decide herself if it was a spoof mailing.

thanks again guys
Yup they are easy to fall prey to because they often exploit common fears and worries we have. Whenever I get a forward that I seems like it is a little dodgy I check out the Snopes site that designz post. If it's a known urban myth I forward the link to the person who sent the email to me...I figure it's better to educate people than keep the info to myself (plus it will make the sender feel better too!)
Sorry but you have been infected with schizophrenia
