"Vistas death march picked up some pace yesterday, after a metrics researcher revealed that nearly 35 per cent of PCs built to run the Windows operating system have been downgraded to XP.

In a survey of more than 3,000 computers, performance testing software developer Devil Mountain Software estimated that more than one in three new machines had either been downgraded by vendors such as Dell, or by customers once they bought the PC."

Pretty obvious considering most users dont like change so they stick with what they know. I hated vista originally but now XP just looks so old and featureless whenever I have to go on someone elses PC.

Problem is that some people are like sheep, yes, on release, Vista was not great, however, it was soon fixed up.

People are just hearing people say vista is ****, vista is rubbish, and are then going on that, and have NEVER even looked at, or tried to use the system.

I have Vista on laptop and XP on home pc, well Vista on laptop runs better than XP strangely enough, i like both of them but i like Vista tad more on design.

There really isn't that much difference between XP & Vista ... once you have got used to it Vista is probably better.

On the other side of the story, momentum is gathering pace to migrate from XP to Vista by the business community. A certain government department has just started to migrate 10,000 users and the first batch of migrated users last quarter had only 1 person who gave feedback Vista migration from XP to vista was poor!

Personally I think Vista is great.

It encourages so many people to try other operating systems.

I have never been an MS fan, but have always used MS operating systems.

Having said that I do think that Vista is a very good OS and was probably one of the best releases they have done and there were "relatively" few issues.

However I still dont get "why" we needed Vista? XP Pro was a solid and fairly secure OS. The only reason anyone would need vista is if they were heavy in to gaming and wanted Direct X10, but then the only reason that isnt on XP is because MS knew it would force a percentage of the market to move to Vista.

For the business users there is just no justifiable reason to move away from XP Pro, we are still using Win 2000 on some machines and it is fine too.

It's all about the $

I think you'll find under the covers they are completely different. Vista is far more secure and has a better firewall and was written using coding techniques to make use of todays pc's rather than ones from 7 years ago. Hence why people say its slow on old PC's.

This data appears to have been collected from users of an advanced system monitoring tool, for that audience I'd say the data was about on par with expectations and what you'd see from a forced upgrade of any operating system.

Yes - I had heard that too.

I believe the coding technique is called 'inefficient'. :-D :-D :-D

Vista was just rushed it reminds me of windows ME...the user interface on it is awful Vista is just a glorified version of XP no companies will be rolling out Vista in a hurry if they had actualy put in half the stuff that was in longhorn as they said you where going to like a new file system it might have been half decent...you ever tried to setup a wirless network on VISTA?? whats a joke and don't even talk about drivers ...then there is the cost....so you pay all that money for Vista Ultimate just to get there wizzy desktop..when Ubuntu has it for free! Im happy with XP and will wait for windows 7 thanks...
