Is a warranty invalid if bought secondhand?

Most warrenties normally specify if they are transferable to a second owner,such as a car, normally only the original owner is covered.

1 Dummy up a sales invoice from a defunct company ie rubber stamp and a detail of item

2 Tell them you have mislaid the receipt its six months old and tell them the serial number will confirm the age of it as Under Sales Of Goods you do not need receipt

3 Throw hands up and suck up the cost

You can return it to the ebay seller for a refund.

The manufacturer has guaranteed that it will work for 3 years, provided it's used correctly. So, providing it's not been abused/misused, then no, the warranty is not invalid.

Cheers, the thing is I bought it 4 months ago and only gave it a quick test when it arrived only after undergoing rigorous usage did if fail.
I contacted the manufacturer who were happy to issue a replacement but they wanted proof of purchase, I contacted the seller but they no longer had the original receipt.I didn't want to disclose to the manufacturer that I purchased off ebay incase that invalidated the warranty.

I have POP in the form of a Paypal invoice but can't find a detailed version of the warranty that covers transfer of ownership.

paypal payment is not POP, as this only confirms when you purchased this from another person and not when the item was purchased from the stores (which is when the manufacturers guarantee would start).

Great so a company can make an unreliable product and not be liable just because I don't have a receipt? What a world we live in.

Legally your contract is with the supplier of the goods, while i've been pooood I would still say its worth writing to whoever made it its only going to cost the price of a stamp

so you expect companies to provide open ended warranties and trust consumers give the correct purchase date?

Well I know for a fact the products only been on sale for under a year, so i'm guessing the manufacturer does too.Subtract that from a 3 year warranty and that leaves 2 plus some change, the companies being dishonest.

you didn't buy from them so unless the person you bought from had authority to transfer the guarantee to you then legally you can't do anything.
Was it a business you bought from? If so you need to go back to them and get them to sort it, if not try asking if they still have the reciept

The person might have bought the item from an auction and if that's the case then it might have had a sticker on it saying sold as scrap. There's loads of sellers on fleabay selling electronics that were bought in auctions.
