I saw a post on here a couple of days ago with the following link:

http://www.a1game.co.uk/

as they are selling Nintendo DS consoles and games cheaply - this thread was removed very quickly and so was a comment i made about the same site, when someone was looking for a cheap DS.

Does anyone know if this is a dodgy site, as I would like to order something from them?

Many thanks

Just went to the site, dodgy!

Always look at the "Contact us" page of any site you are unsure of.
Also the "About us" page reveals a lot, or not in this case.

According to whois they appear to be based in the USA, so are not allowed to list because of HUKD rules on non-UK companies - (only certain pre-selected non uk companies are allowed).

In addition, their site was only registered on 28 October 2008.

Hope that helps

Many thanks for all your comments - think I will give them a miss. Thought the price might be too good to be true!

Thanks again

Has anyone received the items they have ordered from this company? Also, my paypal payment seems to have been made to Christopher Hope!
#6
Welcome to HUKD redlady. I "hope" you get your order!

I ordered some stuff on 5/11/08 and it still hasn't arrived, thats 2 weeks later. The last 2 days their web site has been sort of down with a message that they were reviewing all their prices, today the web site has gone! I must admit, I did worry about this site and have been foolish. I did this via my credit card over pay pal, so I guess i'll get my money back somehow.

Funny though, I did get an email from them asking me to confirm my address as there had been a problem with the registration. They then confirmed all was OK and according to my account, the goods were sent Royal Mail 2nd class on the 8/11/08.

Their web site did say that due to the $/£ conversion rate they were actually selling at a loss but all confirmed orders will still be honoured. I don't know what to think. It looked like a UK site, but if the goods are coming from the US then I guess delivery could be slow.

Doh, looks I've been scammed.

Same message re address, lots of lame responses to questions over expected delivery times.

Said despatched via 2nd class royal mail etc etc on 8/11/2008 still not received it.

Opened a dispute with Paypal, do you think I will get my money back?

Ive had the same trouble , same emails .. waste of time now the email address does not work i had ..
Lost a few presents for xmas ... stick to proper known websites.

Hi,

I’ve also placed and order with A1game.co.uk, placed on 4th Nov and I’m still waiting for my game to be delivered as well.
(GoW2).

I also received the email asking to confirm my address on the 5th Nov and my ‘order status’ advised that the order was shipped via 2nd class Royal mail on the 6th or 7th Nov.

I emailed A1.game.co.uk through their site and received this reply:

Hello,

Thank you for your recent enquiry. I am sorry to hear that your order
delivery is taking longer than usual and I thank you for bringing this
to my immediate attention.

I will contact our distribution center and mail service today for a
confirmation of your order location. Then I will contact you again
with a detailed information update and estimated delivery time for
your goods. Please be patient if your enquiry was submitted outside of
normal work hours; I will endeavour to give you a timely reply as
swiftly as possible.

My Regards,

Elena,
Customer Support.

I’ve also done a little research and found the following: through the WhoIs website:

Domain name:

http://whois.domaintools.com/a1game.co.uk

I’ve also found xxxxxxxxxxxx have links to a xxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxx venture and a xxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx, all associated with the ‘xxxxxxxxxxx’ address (just through using Google)

I too have just opened a dispute with Paypal, never done it before so don't know if it will be successful. I actually paid via Credit Card using Paypal so I guess that will refund me if Paypal doesn't.

I should have known better as I checked the contact info before ordering and there was no address or telephone number etc. Seemed to be a legit site though as I kept seeing offers come and go (like a Wii for £159) and they were always top the the Google search hits. I'm really cheesed off.
#12
I've just phoned through to a tel number registered to a xxxxxxxxxxxxx, who also happens to have the a1game.co.uk domain registered to him.

I spoke to a lady (Elena?) who confirmed the address and, when I mentioned a1game.co.uk, she metioned that xxxxxxxx was 'no longer doing that'.

I explained that I have an oustanding order with a1game.co.uk and asked if xxxxxx could call me back as soon as possible. Her reply was that xxxxxxxx was unavailable today but would call me tomorrow.

........ I'll wait but do not feel very confident !!
(If I do receive a call I'll let all know how it goes)

In the meantime, if anyone would like the tel number feel free to let me know.
In the interests of fairness I would ask that you just let me know your order no and what you ordered as I think it's fair that only people who have outstanding orders should contact them. (there is still a (very) slim chance that the delays are genuine and I'm not out to start a general witch-hunt). But, I do think that speaking directly to someone has a greater chance of getting a result.

I've also made a couple of other posts to this forum about how a1game.co.uk is registered to xxxxxxx who, in turn is connected with xxxxxxxxx based in xxxxxxxxxxx. (you can google the rest).

EDIT:
[the other posts, for some reason, have not shown.
In short:

http://whois.domaintools.com/a1game.co.uk

end EDIT]

To the moderator:
Hopefully everything I've tried to post is OK, especially re: contact info relating to a1game.co.uk. If not plse accept my apologies.
#13
Good detective work, but is a1games.co.uk (UK registered) the same as a1game.co.uk (USA reg)? I have had an email off someone called "Elena" a few days a go to confirm my delivery address. More than a coincidence. Didn't take long to get a phone number using Google, but no reply got answer m/c.
#14
Hi,

The same has happened to me.

Pse tell if anyone has any joy in getting there goods or money back.
#15
I thought the US reg was different .... for a1game.com which was importing Japanese games into the states.
Could be wrong tho.

Yeah, I had an email from Elena about confirming my address and a further mentioning the possible delays etc (after contacting them through the website for more info). Have to agree tho, it's looking a little dodgy as 2 weeks, even by 2nd class royal mail, doesn't fill me with confidence so far.
#16
I'd like to know where CHRISTOPHER HOPE fits into this. This is who my Paypal payment went to.

ZeroMoniker - please let us know if this xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx rings you back.

a1games.co.uk registered in UK is like a dummy domain website. The UK one wasn't the same as retail website address as it has an extra 'S' in URL name. That Domain name is also currently for sale for £50 (seriously) >

a1game.co.uk is registered in USA & is the same name as retail site that was selling games, but now their website is down - can only see it if you use view old cache view of site.

I too have made the same mistake, but paid via paypal so hopefully they'll track down Mr Hope.

I'm pretty sure that the a1games.co.uk has nothing to do with a1game.co.uk. So I wouldn't go phoning that fella up.

Whilst the a1game web site was still working I tracerouted the site's server to Australia, but that doesn't necessarily mean that's where Mr Hope is.

Also managed to look at my account status when the site had that maintenance message on it, after I told Paypal of the possible scam this appeared on my order details on a1game:

11/17/2008 Pending PayPal IPN Verified [payment status: Reversed (; £-xxx.xx); buyer_complaint]
11/17/2008 Pending PayPal IPN Verified [payment status: (; £0.00)]

But the money is not yet back in my Paypal account, Mr Hope has until the 27th to respond, so we'll see.

In theory Paypal must be able to sort this out as they have his bank details.
#19
My payment for goods from "A1game" was made by Paypal on the 10th Nov. I then became suspicious as payment was apparantly made to "Christopher Hope" and the website disappeared. I filed a dispute claim with Paypal on the 18th Nov and whoever was in receipt of my cash has until the 28th Nov to reply.

Hi, just had a call from Julian and he very politely explained that he has the domain a1games.co.uk but no longer uses it and is in the process of selling it. We, on the other hand (as the_garbage pointed out) are interested in a1game.co.uk ... (not a1gameS.co.uk).

As such, can I point out that the info I posted previously re: Julian and Cortex ABC Ltd, should be ignored.

Thanks to Julian as well for calling me back, much appreciated.

Ok, then .... a1GAME.co.uk ... here we come !
#21
Searching the web i come across this chat link so though i would join in as sadly i bought a WII console (!!) and a game from them on the 8th and like everyone else, chased the delivery and got a very polite message back from Elana apogising for the delay. Still not received anything. I too had to verify my address. Saw that their site went under maintenance and now has disappeared so obviously now fear the worse.
If i remember rightly, they would only take pay pal payments. I paid by pay pal direct from my bank account. Have since logged a claim via pay pal and they have up to the 28th to reply. Hoping i will get my money back as its a lot! Have since been to Argos! Much more reliable.
No such thing as a free lunch hey :p:cry:
Has anyone ever had any luck with claiming back through paypal for things like this. I didnt use a credit card to fund paypal so dont think i am covered on that score.
Makes me feel sick.
#22
Me too.

There certainly isn't a 1275 Rodeo drive in Santa Barbara which is where the registration claims to have come from - its a tiny road in the middle of nowhere!
#23
I too ordered from A1game.co.uk - two games for the wii at just short of £50. I also received an email asking me to confirm my address as they said the computer had crashed when I registered. Have since had no reply to any emails. I paid by paypal so have started a claim. Christopher Hope has til 30 November to reply. I am sure he wont and that his paypal account will have been cleared out and closed. Not sure if this means we wont get our money back???

I thought the site was very cheap - guess this is a lesson - if it looks too good to be true, then it probably is!!

Am pretty p'd off though!
#24
i too have ordered a wii from these people and a spare remote. the thing that annoys me most is i emailed rhem to say id seen a wii on there site and now could not find one she (elena) told me she had them shipped in regulary and to try in the morning as id have a better chance lo and behold i tried the following morning and one was there. i ordered it straight away. appears i recieved the same standard emails as everyone else. i have a really bad feeling about this company... i have lodged a complaint so lets hope something comes of that or i imagine i can expect A very unhappy son on christmas day as it has taken FOREVER to save up for this one....pls tell me if anyone gets their money or goods back so i can see light at the end of the tunnel x
#25
I ordered a DS, a Wii Fit and two Wii games comign to just short of £200 so wee bit annoyed right now. Have ordered another DS from a reputable company and managed to get a Wii Fit in HMV this morning at the proepr retail price but still nearly £200 out of pocket aint I?

Started my paypal dispute - he must have had a lot since Paypal instantly upgraded it to a claim rather than dispute - his site was up for close to 3 weeks you imagine how many hundreds if not thousands of people he has scammed in that time.

Hopefully he is traceable as he has verified his bank account - and of course you cannot get a bank accout nwithout ID and a verifiable address - unless of course he has nicked someones ID too in which case we screwed.

Anyone that paid using CC can chargeback if Paypal fails to get it back for you, Debit Card like me not so sure. Instant bank transfer well if Paypal can't get it back then you have lost that money as a direct debit is not reversable.
#26
My paypal claim was also immediately escalated to a claim - not very hopeful of getting my money back though after looking at the paypal terms. My purchase was only £50 but at this time of year who can afford to throw that away.

Wondering whether to contacting Trading Standards about this. Has anyone already done that?
#27
not much point since they have no juristiction out side the UK
#28

have spoken to trading standards just and they have said that if there is nothing paypal can do then we need to just accept that they have taken our money and gone :x really not amused!!!!

Well Trading Standards were a great help then!! Am at work at the moment so little I can do from here, but briefly looked at BBC Watchdog page - there is a section you can fill in on there and they will investigate. Might be worth a look.....

right debit card if you used a Visa debit card ur covered no matter what you can chargeback for that and credit cards no problem could take upto 6 months but you will get your money back if paypal doesnt by contactign your card issuer.

Maestro cardholders (like me) would have a problem as there is no such chargeback scheme for that type of card UNLESS it is a website transaction (which this was) to a company based overseas (which as we know from the Whois data it is registered in the USA). so we can make a claim now no matter what. It does not matter that the domain name ends in .co.uk anyone can have any domain name no matter where they are.

Hope that helps guys, makes me feel better anyway. As for instant bank transfer as far as I am currently aware the only recourse you will have is to fall on the sympathy of your bank as direct debits are not reversible.
#32
I bought mine as an xmas pressie for me fella and as said before, have since gone to argos... £200 out of pocket. Paid with direct bank transfer from pay pal so looks like i may be scr3wed on that score.

Having read through PayPals rules you CANT claim with you bank/credit card, if you have an active claim with them. It makes their claim null and void.

I think unless paypal comes up trumps for us all that have paid not using a credit care then we are just gonna have to accept it. We have been had!

:x
#33
Hey all - i have logged with BBC watch dog too. Got to be a worth a try if enough of us do it.... what i said follows.....
""Ordered a WII and a game for £200 from website and paid by paypal as requested. Since chased for goods as not arrived. Site is now invalid after being in "maintenance" for a couple of days and emails are now bouncing back. Depsite being promissed delivery, nothing has arrived. Paypal currently investigating but currently not had a reponse from A1game. Joined a forum and there are LOADS of us in the same boat. The site was only open for 3 weeks so imagine how much money they scammed in that time....""

That is true yes but the limit for paypal claims is 30 days from it being enacted, so if you win which you will, but they cant recover funds because he has cleaned his account out - very likely the reason why they all get escalated by paypal in the first place - then you go down the route of claiming through your card provider - you have upto 120 days from the date the transaction was made to do this, so do the paypal thing first and if that doesnt work pursue it with your card issuer.
#35
So as long as you dont try to claim at the same time, there is chance that if paypal doesnt succeed then you can go to your CC company.

Unfortuantely for me, mine was a part credit in my paypal account (£70 approx) and the rest a direct transfer from my bank account. (£80 approx)...Does paypal pay back if its taken from a credit in your account already?

Not sure what my bank will do. I only own a solo card.

Paypal will only refund you if you win AND they were able to freeze his assets BEFORE he withdrew the funds from his paypal account - lets be honest by asking us to verify our address it gave him or them the time to withdraw the funds by paying it out to another account - and then another and so on ie laundering it and finally withdrawing to a completely seperate bank account that would be hard to trace.

Solo comes under Maestro (I think) but the direct transfer part of it (ie the direct debit bit) if you do not get it back from Paypal you have lost that part for definate unless we all name and shame Paypal by going to BBC Watchdog - lets be honest all businesses take out insurance to cover eventualities like this and Paypal/Ebay are no different.

I have lost a hell of a lot here and I have just been made redundant - this was a treat for christmas with my payout so it really has hurt me!!
#38
Right I have also sent my story to Watchdog - using what you sent above, but altered and tailored to my own situation!!

have spoken to my bank (barclays) and they have said to give paypal 30 days... and if they don't respond they will fight the case for me as a non delivery. and they said that this harldy ever fails and that paypal tend to always cough up. i hope this brings some good news . I just cannot believe how evil some people can be. x x good luck everyone.... we must fight this...

I too have been caught up by this scam. Bought a nintendo wii for my fiance's birthday. Fortunately I bought mine with my credit card so hopefully I'll get a refund.

At the time of purchase I thought the website looked a bit dodgy but decided it was genuine as they used paypal and that I’d accessed the site via a sponsored link through google. I've since learnt that Paypal offer no security what so ever, you only get money back if they get money back from the seller. Considering that paypal don’t verify account adresses that are not via eBay or Amazon then there isn’t much hope!!!

I'll log my story with watchdog too. For what its worth I've also logged this with google ads as they advertised this website. I’ve asked for any information they have on this company, doubt it will get me anywhere but its worth a try!!

Good luck everyone
