The AA Car Breakdown Rip Off ???

I have got a 2 car breakdown policy which includes everything and is quite costly.
Today I get my renewal and its gone up by 40%.
They are charging me a £61 service charge because I have called them out 5 times over 2 years.
4 of the call outs were only 2 breakdowns, they came out to the breakdown (both weekends) and again the next day to tow me to the garage on the suggestion of the breakdown man because the garage was closed.
What's the point in paying for the best policy and then getting charged extra for using it ??

And no I will not be renewing it !!

Great policy as long as you don't call them out

Do you think this a rip off ??

5 times over 2 years seems a lot, perhaps buy a new car?
#2
Phone them and haggle, ours went down from £130 to £65 for exactly same service!

That does seem unfair. I would change breakdown cover every year, like car insurance as you get it cheaper as a new customer and potential Quidco too

If you read the post you will see its not 5 individual call outs, and the policy is on 2 cars too

I wouldn't say 5 times over 2 years is a lot ! This is what you pay them for, you don't pay x amount per year not to use it.
#6
you pay them to use it so you can call them as many times as you want, thats what its there for, policy sucks and a total rip off.
#7
Insurance companies are the same, moaning they have to shell out for claims, surely this is why you pay them, for them to take the risk.

Yes , I think the AA are rip off merchants too. I was with them for breakdown services a few years ago and stopped it . They kept sending out renewal notices but could'nt quite make up there mind on what to charge me ..................£62 first off ,then it went to £67 , then £72 .
I'm now with Britanica [ or Britanic ] £54 a year all in .

even if it was 5 times in two years its not a lot imo..i mean for what charge you expect to be able to use it. AA renewed mine without paperwork at an inflated price so the bank clawed the money back. I will never use them again but what they have done to you in a disgrace..

All I will say is auto aid, see the difference.

We were with the RAC and called them out 4 times (car was knackered had to change it in the end lol) anyway after the 4th time we had a letter saying we'd used up there call out service and had to pay next time we called them out!!

what about the people that pay but never use the services, I bet they don't get a letter saying thank you for not using us this year here is a small refund.

Go to TopCashback and enter GEM they're offering fullcover joint policy for about £84.80.Apparently
they were voted Which 2010 best breakdown provider and you get about £15.50 cashback I'm with the AA and paid about £77 last year after cashback.Got renewal through and was £151 so rang them and said I was going to GEM Motor Aid and they knocked it down to £105.

I live in north wales my son went to Liverpool for a job, he borrowed one of our cars and the clutch went on it. He called the AA they told him he was only covered for roadside and they would not get the car home. He was told the he could upgrade. the asked him for another £120 pounds this was on top of the £38.99 he had already paid as a member anyway this is for the same cover you can get on line for £79. I was told on the phone even as a member myself who would have been covered I was not in the car. Green Flag next year.

Better to have it before you need it, we broke down in the middle of the welsh valleys no mobile signal nothing but managed to get to a Emergency Phone, all we needed was a flat swapping over(yes i know since i have all the gear to do it myself but this was when i was naive) anyhow £130.00 they charged to sign up and never used again!
