im neither for or against abortion, its down to choice

i do think that sometimes the father gets a bad deal, i know its the womans body etc etc but i know a guy who was devestated his ex had an abortion

I dont think the father has a say if the female is a B***H.
I agree with Medical terminations, but never really been in favour of the convenience ones.
But since having Daughters of my own, If 1 of my girls came home at 15, I would never ever state my feelings on Abortions and just hope she does what is best for her and learns from the big mistake.

Everyone has their own opinions on these type of things, Its like an ear peircing thread for young children! Never end well.

Inappropriate youtube links removed and thread unspammed. Please keep to the topic in hand and post in an appropriate manner and report any posts that may not comply with the code of conduct for MOD review, thank you.

Don't see how the youtube link was inappropriate, it was a documentary on the subject and gave different viewpoints around changing the law on abortion.

The man has no input no, as the woman carries the pregnancy it's her choice. The right to life does not supersede the living mothers mental and physical health that is why.

ah yes that is right i do remember that now

ide be traumatised if this happened to me, why on earth should it be allowed. if the woman didnt want to get pregnant to begin with protection should have been used etc. ive not started this thread to spark deliberate arguments etc... i genuinely wasnt sure of the procedure. cant say i agree with it.

ok, that is fair enough. for an abortion does a doctor have to agree that these are the reasons why? or can you simply have one just because you cant be bothered with the pregnancy?
#16
abortions are disgusting.

I could never deal with knowing i killed one of my offspring.

Just my 2cents.

what if continuing the pregnancy harmed your girlfriend/wife?
#18
I'm pro choice and think the time limit should be lowered and late abortions only allowed for physical threat to the mother, not psycological.

2 drs have to agree that proceeding with the pregnancy would be detrimental to the womans physical or mental health or quality of life for the foetus in the incident of a disabled child.

ok thats understandable. what if a woman simply decided she didnt want a child? could she still proceed with it?

If you can forget about judging people for a moment as to how they got into the position you need to understand that the process of pregnancy is not something that a woman should go through against her will. The effects on her body are enormous and many irreversible. The mental trauma being forced to go through this process would also do massive harm.

People have been have abortions of one kind or another since we have been on the planet. Passing laws against it has and never will stop it as desperate girls and women will turn to backstreet practitioners.

An abortion should never be taken lightly and in my experience never is. However a safe and supported health care system should provide this for those in need.

If you want to stop abortions then look at the pathetic sex education programmes we have in this country. Ignorance and lack of confidence will never stop people having sex, but it will lead to unwanted STDs and pregnancy.

The word simply is inappropriate in this debate.

If you simply decide you want a baby should you be allowed?

The word simply is loaded with judgement and has not place in either statement.

This must happen as I know a few girls who have gone through with it, and its too easily available for young girls!

Also I agree with Randa, the age limit should be lowered unless its a matter of permanent damage to mum or baby.

It shouldnt be about mental health at this stage. (24 weeks) A unstable mum mentally should of decided well before 24 weeks. They should give people the chance to "think" about it for that long, after 23 weeks they should be made to give them up for adoption to people who genuinely want a child.
Obviously that will never happen as its just a wishful thought!

I think it depends on the circumstances, Say an indecent assault happened or the babies deformed then I'd 100% agree.

Otherwise in general I disagree, You should take precaution's.

However, I think drug addicts should be forced to abort or be sterilised all together.

Yeah i imagine alot of addicts get pregnant simply to help financial circumstances.

You should have to go through a financial assessment before you can have a baby in this country.

Too many people sponging off the state for children they cant afford.

There you go using the word simply again. I am sure some people simply have no idea about the subject and just spouting off one right wing myth after the other.

Agree, you should have to be issued with a breeding licence before having kid

Also anyone who wears rebook classics, adidas tracksuit bottoms and eats at greggs more than once a month should be sterilised.

Why oh why in this day and age do people downplay mental health? If a woman is vunerable to a mental breakdown it's more likely to show it's self in the later stages of pregnanvy or post.Just what everyone needs huh, lots of mentally ill women not up to looking after children denied a way out, so they end up on a mental ward at best, harming themsleves and the baby at worst. Why do people still think it's acceptable to force mentally ill people to do things as it's tough luck. It's barbaric bring back the asylums.ANyway after 24 weeks it's only allowed if there is a serious disability in the child. If the mum becomes seriously ill they will just deliver at viability.

Because babies that are born with late abortions are very often born alive and are left to die. The edge of viability is pushed so much these days, and the death of the child can only be justified by Physical danger to the mother. I read a thread on netmums about this the other day, the woman was 4 days before the cut of date for late abortions, and she was accepted because she didnt feel any love for the child WTF?

What do you suggest, locking women up while they are pregnant to stop them going to backstreet abortionists? WTF?

The law will never stop abortions only lead to the death of baby and mother However I am sure many who say they are for protecting life will say "serves her right"

My 2nd was born where I felt no love to my DD, Found out I had Ante-Natal Depression. But I never once thought "oh lets just get rid"
Took me 2 yrs to turn from a mum who did what I HAD to for her, to a Mum that loved doing things for her.
I think its terrible the Drs would let a women have a termination at 23 weeks just because she felt no love for that baby!
Some, and I am saying some, not all, some women just like the easy way out.

Is the OP for real?

Are we even sure they're knowledgable of how pregnancy occurs or they under the impression that storks are being shot down in mid-air?
1 Like #34
I dont think it's a warped view, i have always been pro choice and always will be because i believe a woman has a right to decide what happens to her body. However with the more we know about how babies develop, and the survival rates for premature babies goes up, there comes a point in a pregnancy where both lives deserve equal respect, and at that point only a physical threat to a mothers welbeing jusitifies the act of abortion.

This thread is a massive can of worms! Abortion is one of the most tricky subjects with everyone having a varying view. At the end of the day it all depends on circumstance. Take these examples:

1. A 16 year old gets drunk, has sex and gets pregnant, she really doesnt want a child as she cant afford to raise it and her family will disown her if they find out.

2. A woman in her mid 30's gets pregnant by her husband, they really want a child but find out the baby will be born severely disabled, they decide that they dont want a child that will not live a normal life and think it will affect their relationship and take away from their own lives.

Both scenarios will have pro and against supporters for varying reasons, but at the end of the day its down to the person in the scenario, which again depends on what type of person you are. I've no doubt that some people for one example will be pro abortion while against it with another example, against both or pro both, the answer to abortion is that there simply isnt any simple answer.

As for the 'father' having input it all depends on circumstance, was it a one night stand and she didnt know him? or was it a mistake in a relationship? etc etc, so many scenarios!

Nothing to do with anyone else.
