My gf has just washed the front of my stereo!!!!

I have a tv/screen in my car that pops out when i turn the engine on.
I have a small bit of it at the front that comes off (supposedly to stop people knicking it).
I take this off every time i get out the car.
When i came to work at 6am this morning, i couldnt find it anywhere.
I just had a thought and phoned my gf to ask her to look in the front pocket of the top i was wearing last night and she said, it's in the washing machine!!!!
It's just stopped and she's checked it and YES, it's gone through the wash :(:(:(

Do you reckon there's ANY chance of it working again when i connect it to my stereo or is it game over?
The stereo costs me over £700 and i dont kow if i'll be able to just buy the small bit that comes off at the front??
Any ideas? :)

Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now there is another reason I dont have a girlfriend at the moment.

Adivce, trust me dude put your stereo thing in rice and it will soak the water.

I'd kill my OH if that happened, although then again you should have taken it out of your pocket.

Either way i empathise,i'd be gutted too!!

ALWAYS check pockets before washing! lol. I lent my spare mobile to a mate once and his girlfriend washed it with his jeans

I would think it'll be OK when dry, unless the washing machine is a tub with a paddle in the middle to bash it about.

dont try to switch in on stick it airing cupboard for a good few days ive done this with phones and ipods most important thing is that it isnt operated until completly dry

This is definitely your best chance of saving it, if the stereo front is dried out entirely before it's powered back up it should significantly reduce the chance of it being damaged.

+1 or try putting it into a bowl of uncooked rice, the rice will absorb the moisture :)

put it in the oven for an hour with your gf's head

Can't really blame her for doing it, otherwise you'll get into the argument of ''You can clean your own clothes from now on then''

I'd say its history, do you not have any home contents insurance you could claim though?

oh no ... men never check their pockets so many time i have wash my boyfriends jeans with, phones money , cards paper work etc in them x

Funnily enough i ALWAYS check my pockets when i do my washing (i know its rare lol).
Only problem is she thought she'd be helpful and picked my top up from my bedroom this morning (I hadn't put it in the wash basket) and unfortunately SHE doesnt check pockets before doing the washing :(:(

I think she's using a hair drier on it at the mo lol.

Got no home contents insurance so thats a no go :(

Might try the rice as don't have an airing cupboard.

I'm kinda hoping that there's no electrical bits inside it and that it's just plastic

Had to laugh at this :whistling:

If you don't have an airing cupboard then I'd leave it near a radiator, just anywhere that gives it a good chance of drying out.

Do your washing yourself in the future :p

Take Johns advice, only hope. Good luck

Also, give it a few days drying out. Don't be tempted to just try to see if it works.
