Moved here from the Casulaty discussion, where they showed what might or might not be acceptable TV when shown before the watershed.

Please continue discussing it here. Thanks.

Why is this unacceptable.

It's before the watershed for starters  I just personally do not agree with this being shown,

Instead of sheltering things like drugs shouldnt we educate as they are doing in casualty. Most soaps try to cover these sorts of issues(drugs, crime) so people can relate to it. The soaps usally come to conclusions and answers. If they put in after the watershed then they would miss the viewers that need the most education...kids

So educating them by actually showing the kids how to snort it is acceptable?? I'm not saying don't educate - but why like that?

It doesn't take rocket science thats for sure!

When someone says "snort" you know what it means, Sniff!! :giggle:

I don't see it as an Issue myself either, I don't think an 8 year old would die trying to snort talcum powder*! (Thats normally what it is, Or flour! :giggle: ).

*That doesn't mean you can't! :giggle:

I don't see what the point is in hiding reality and see this as a pointless thread. But we all have our views and opinions.

Err............no I didn't......

But regardless, Unless the bloke snorted the coke and then appeared all happy and excitable then I don't think its sending out a "try drugs, They're great" message.

Stop being too PC, theres far worse things out there like GTA games, and worse tv shows.

Do you think all kids stop watching tv at 9pm or something?

No offense btw.
#16
Infact I'll watch a repeat if/when its on.
#17
This is a show that regularly shows very accurate/graphic, bloody & gory images that you wouldn't find in a PG rated film JUST(an hour) before the watershed & isn't really likely to attract a big rebellious teenage audience looking to learn these things??!? Personally I didn't watch it so maybe it was far more graphic than was needed but if it worked with the storyline without being sensationalist I'd say complain if you feel you want to but it doesn't sound that bad to me in the context of what this show has shown before....

Im not gonna watch the repeat as its obviously going to stongly motivate me to go take coke

sorry if im being a little harsh but i get really annoyed about tip toeing everywhere trying to be politicaly correct

Yes, your right. GTA is worse, but its good fun. I bet the majority of people that own the game are under the age of 18, fact. I've played every GTA, I'm 16. Its good fun I must admit but I don't see myself buying a flame thrower 'n going frying some human to be honest. Theres reality then theres a game, I don't think GTA will impact on people's lifes because I've fried live weapons and tbh I don't think I'd turn round and blast a hole in the side of someones head.

Like I said, theres no point hiding the real world to kids, I was watching and playing the first GTA when it came out on the PS1 and I must have been 8?

To be fair, GTA is a game, Casualty is more of a realistic (real life type) tv program.
#21
i think that is is going to show the bad side (it did a bit last week) to balance it out
#22
im sure the episode was considered ok to air was before it was
#23
why anyone would be offended at anything on TV is beyond me...but each to their own...some people just like to complain i guess lol..no offence OP

True. But real life, reality. What I'm trying to get at is, I live in a ****** town, I see, hear about drugs on a daily basis. So its nothing kids are not likely to hear about. If you don't want your child watching graphical images stick CBBC on.

Simple.

ye I agree with you lol.

I'd agree James, I've just heard several random drunks shouting there head off, I had a look out my window and I'd guess they'd be around 13-14.

Those won't want to do drugs will regardless, Same as those who smoke/drink.

I've been there all three places there, but only weed, its widly available here. Don't smoke, rarly drink anymore because I'm working a lot and it don't appeal to me as much as it use to, seeing as my liver must already be a state.

Though I rekon smoking and drugs at young ages are related to peer-pressure. I'll admit smoking was, but drugs was my choice.

Same reason people had posts removed, it was just getting insulting towards becks.

Well the original title was "casualty 28/7/07"

If the title was "How do I complain about a bbc program" originally, I doubt many people would've had the opinions they did.

People will have a difference of opinion, However, When its 3-4 people agreeing against one disagreeing it looks like people are ganging up and I don't like that.

why has this been split into 2 threads?

It depends on the context, people shouldnt be shielded from things only makes matters worse.

People cant live in a bubble all their lives

I'm truly disgusted by this, why should I pay a TV licence to watch drug taking activities, when I could simply walk out of my house, to the nearest housing estate and watch the kids do it?

By the way, it's happened in the last few episodes.

How many times have you written in to 'Points of view', you know that comedy show?
#35
Get a grip people. I'm surprised you can spare the time to type, shouldn't you be covering your children's eyes?

Just because you know how to pull a trigger, doesn't mean you will shoot someone.

Just because you know how to snort coke, doesn't mean they will start taking it.

Or should I write to Points of View, because little Timmy saw Homer Simpson eat a stick of butter. Timmy thought this was ok, then died of clogged arteries.
#36
i dont agree with even having a watershed. sometimes im far too tired to wait untill midnight to watch the 10 minute freeview, this is clearly not fair and should be screened at tea time lol
#37
I think it is called reality TV and the the Bill and Casualty are getting to real, this sort of stuff use to be in films at the cinema, not on the TV. The producers know this as well, why do you think they have cut some episodes where a baby gets kidnapped or a young girl is raped and killed, because they are too real.

Life is nasty enough on the outside without seeing it pumped through the box as well. I hardly watch the television now, because it is either about dance/singer wannabes, big brother spy cams, real police chases or sort my problem out shows. The TV shows at the moment are really scrapping the barrel to pull viewers. Even the soaps are not real everyday life. When was the last time you saw someone watch a TV on a soap or followed them as they shop in Tesco's or Sainburys or did any online shopping.

The television portrays as false environment for insecure people....:whistling:

Grange Hill dealt with this issue, directly aimed at children, 20 odd years ago.
The portrayal of the descent into drug abuse toward the end of the story arc was much more graphic, and for a childrens show incredibly well done, than last night.

Casualty isn't a childrens show, and of you don't want them seeing things of a more adult nature, don't let them watch it or any other shows this close to the watershed.
#39
Thats actually something I didnt think of, Casualty has loads of blood and gore and the OP doesnt mind that, but drug abuse and they freak out.
