Accepting payment from abroad?

I'm selling a mobile phone to a guy in Japan. We've agreed on a price and he's attempted to pay me via paypal using his credit card but it's going to charge him £16 for the privilege. Is there a way around this so that he can transfer the amount without getting charged? I know you dont get charged if its via paypal gift but I think the charges are because he's trying to transfer from a credit card. Would a normal Bank Transfer work ok?

yes it does-you can choose to pay the fees for foreign transaction-have a look?

I'd also get him to check or you check if it will actually work.

Japan uses a different phone system, NOT GSM, therefore there is a high chance the phone may not work, so be prepared for a chargeback from Paypal.
Check before you accept payment and send it.

I know he's aware of the possible restrictions with the phone so that shouldn't be an issue. Just a bit stumped with how he's going to pay without being charged, he knows im not sending anything until payments cleared.

you'd best check that japan does signed for delivery as a lot of countries dont. hence you'll get scammed as paypal will favour the buyer without proof of delivery

There's an option on the RM website for japan when looking for international signed for so I think its ok.

Is it possible for him to do a direct transfer to my bank account from his credit card?

Btw, thanks for the replies everyone and merry christmas :)

that doesnt mean that delivery is signed for though. They only track the parcel until it leaves the UK

Are all International Signed For™ items electronically tracked when they are delivered? We track all International Signed For™ items until they leave the UK and then the item is handed over to the destination country's postal service as a priority item. However, we can’t track your International Signed For™ item all the way to delivery in every instance or always be able to provide a confirmation of delivery.

you can get tracking in certain countries and china/japan is covered:)

I've been paid via paypal gift and I'm in the process of transferring the money into my bank account. So far, so good. It's just down to me to get it delivered properly now :)
