hello

i have a few questions about my acer 5520g laptop i bought

i purchased it about 8 months ago and it came with windows vista on it, so i ordered the upgrade to windows7, my laptop is constantly overheating and turning off, i've tried cleaning the fan but that dont solve the problem, i have a fan mat type thing but that dont really work that well
how do i go about restoring windows vista back onto my laptop?

its not just the fan that wants cleaning, the main part is where the lappy blos the hot air out, the bit where you can see the copper disperser

yeh just give it a thorough blow, i usually take all the panels of from the underside to let some dust out. Best to use some compressed air, i use an airbed compresser lol failing that use the plastic from a biro and good old lung power:thumbsup:

i have found that using a laptop fan under the laptop just fills the laptop with more dust and crap, so after a couple of months i have to strip it down and clean it out

my hp 6735s has been doing this recently, too annoying but out of warranty.

Are there any power management programs installed? Is it just running at full speed? Seems a bit coincidental that it happened at the same time as a Win 7 install. You should be able to look and see if the CPU is running at 100%.

"how do i go about restoring windows vista back onto my laptop?"

Did you make a backup using the " Acer eRecovery Managment Util" ?.

no, but is vista not installed on my drive somewhere?

Isn't it ALT+F10 to bring up the recovery menu on start up ?, as long as you have not deleted the hidden recovery partition.

(You may have to change an option in bios to allow the recovery keys but I am not sure).

There is some options on the Acer e Recovery Management util, have you still got that installed ?.

Partition magic can show hidden partitions

i'll go and have a look, thanx
