Acer Aspire 9300 lap top not booting up!!

Anyone able to offer advise please? Have been having a few snags with the Acer laptop occasionally switching off after a long period of constant use (poss overheating?). Then today it simply refuses to boot up. The power LED on the laptop illuminates when switched on, then there is a click/whirr for a very brief second, but nothing else. Nothing on the screen. No booting up noises, and no fan sound. Nothing appears on the screen. Tried to reboot by taking battery out and using ac adaptor only, and vice versa. But nothing. Power LED on, whirr/click for a second and then silence and screen remains blank. Sounds pretty expensive to me!!!

faulty hard drive?

i agree with mumbojumbo. if it was the harddrive it would come up with the acer logo and then some kind of error message but if your getting absolutely nothing then it looks like a motherboard fault! and yeah will possibly be very expensive to fix. i would maybe look into getting a new one if the laptop is out of warranty. PC World will run an advanced diagnostics on it for £20 and they'll be able to tell you exactly whats wrong with it and give you options from there! hope that helps!

Would still give an error message if it's the hard drive. Sounds like a motherboard fault, but check the RAM too.

Thanks very much. Have some rep! How do you check the RAM? What am I checking for?

Yes, unfortunately the laptop is about 3 years old now - so definitely out of warranty! Sounds like it is worth a £20 diagnostics check which will then help me decide to bin it or repair it!! Rep to you also! Cheers.
