Acer Aspire Laptops..... Warrenties...............

.

While I was out today picking up a Rabbit for my littlun in Ashford, I stopped off in Tesco for some bunny supplies!

Whilst there, I thought I'd have a look to see if they had any of those end of line cheapo laptops that have been in the deal section. They did!

There were a few to chose from, but the one I picked had a slightly lower spec ( T5550 C2D, 120Gb HD instead of 160 and 1GB of Ram instead of 2) even though it was the same price, because on the box it said it came with a 3 year warrenty. Looking inside the box, it says it has a 12 month warrenty! Swizz - I let go a faster machine to get that warrenty!

Does anyone know that has an Acer Aspire 5633 - know anything about the warrenties? Seems a bit off to specifically say it has a 3 year warrenty if it hasn't!

Price was £170 BTW - which isnt bad for what it is!

I bought one of these a couple of years ago when they were £500. It was a decent laptop but when it broke down after around 20 months I had trouble getting somebody to honour the warranty.
Acer support told me that they didn't have the laptop down as having a 3 year warranty as they only provide this on their Extensa range. They said this must have been a special deal exclusive to Tesco and they would have to deal with it.
Went to Tesco and they didn't want to know either. I stuck to my guns and eventually came away with a complete refund. Result.:)
I had kept the original box as it was the only proof of the 3 year warranty and I don't think Tesco would have budged but for this.
Knowing the hassle I had, I would double check with Tesco that they will honour the warranty because Acer won't.
This is not one of the usual bigs at Acer btw.
Here's the thread from way back when this was a hot deal at £500.

Thanks bud.

I knew they had other models.... but didnt realise the box inside the outer box it came with were the same. The other one I saw in store, was just the inner box and no mention of warranties. That was the reason I ended up taking the one I did - even though it had a smaller HD and less Ram. I have since called them... the other one had a slower CPU, so would have gone this route anyway.

The girl I spoke to said "Tesco give a 12 month warrenty, the 3 years is with Acer, once you register.

Fortunately for me, I know all about the Sale of goods act and goods not as described! If it goes wrong, I'll just return it to my supplier (Tesco) and they can sort it.

How strange though that the box has 3 years printed on it - when Acer say they have no knowledge! Sounds a bit of a scam to shift boxes to me!

Have another red rep dot on me... ;)

I've got the exact same laptop. Nice little machine it is, and it only cost me £130 from Gumtree. Best of all, it was from a girl, and she didn't delete her files very well, and, well, turns out she looks pretty damn good naked.

Cool. Just remember to keep that outer box.
Hopefully you won't have to use the warranty anyway.
It's an excellent laptop and a bargain at £170:thumbsup:

Definitely. Especially as laptops seem to have increased in price in recent months.

I asked them what the other machine they'd got I hadn't seen when I was on the phone a short while ago. It was a T7500.... but not been reduced..... YET. It will be. Someone will get a bargain, but no doubt it'll be a member of staff. When I was in the store earlier, the guy I originally spoke to said they had them "at the back" and to speak to the front desk. She told me "we only have what we have on display", but then said she had bought one herself yesterday when I got the guy over to speak to her and suddenly remembered the laptops I was talking about!

Man, that's no good. You'd have thought that at £170 for a system with a 3yr warranty, they'd at least have made it a customer return with an uncleared recycle bin.
