Is that 100% correct? We just leave ours plugged into the mains and never run it off the battery but it still shows as charging all the time.

Does that mean we have to switch off at the mains every few hours to run down the battery?

It reduces the life of the battery apparently as it keeps it topped up to 100% which is not ideal for any li-ion battery You might want to just take the battery out if you play on keeping it on charge?

yup. when you battery is charged, ideally you should remove the charger. also every so often let the battery fully drain till it cuts out. helps maintain battery life. keeping it on charge will reduce its lifetime and run time.

Wow! Thats a real pain to have to remember to unplug and run the battery until low all the time. I would have thought there would be some setting to use the battery until power is low and then auto switch to recharge from the mains and run the laptop from the mains whilst charging (leaving the AC plugged in continuously).

Maybe I will just leave the battery out permanently.............

I still dont get this. If I recharge my battery and then remove the AC and then run on battery until low and then recharge; i would have to do this about 4-5 times a day. It wouldnt be long until the battery is worn out!

Surely, people don;t really do this with their laptops?....................................

I've kept my laptop battery inserted for over a year rarely removing it. Most of the time the AC plug is also inserted, I still get about 2 hours out of it which is alright considering it's at least 15 months old now.

It has been out and about but the majority of the time I treat it as a replacement desktop. Others haven't been so lucky though from what I've heard :).

Rubbish! Most laptops have chargers that automatically switch off the charging circuit when the battery is full, so don't worry about leaving it plugged in.

In theory you are right. However, how do you know that your particular laptop disconnects power from the battery when it's fully charged..?
Regardless, a battery WILL last longer if it is occasionally run flat and recharged than a battery that is kept permanently topped up.

Thanks all. I have just taken it out of my laptop permanently as no use for it 99% of the time.
