Tesco first, they will probably give you a refund if you wanted one.

you need to take it back to tesco as you bought it from them and dont take no for an answer, you bought it from them so the warranty is with them

thanks. might try tomorrow, if i can get a swap would be great as money i paid will cover a better model now, lol.

Not got this problem, but the Acer I bought from Tesco for my littlun has developed 2 faults. Firstly the 160GB hard drive has died (and Ive replaced with a 40GB one for now) and the bios battery is dead (meaning it cant retain the date - which is a real pain as the anti-virus updates are being shafted by it.

As someone said, they will give a refund - but I imagine you bought it as "a good deal" and cant replace at the price paid. (Mine was £170 for a C2D lappy)

hmmmm just found my reciept and says if over 28 days old to ring the electrical helpline and if fault cant be fixed over the phone then they will arrange a repair. clearly says on reciept if over 28 days do not take back to store. i dont wanna be without laptop for weeks while they try repair something that probably wont fix. it was £429 for aspire 5735z and pretty sure they got one similar maybe even a bit better for similar price now. would you still try store first or wait for a repair?

according to the sales of goods act i think it says its up to the person who sold it you not the manufacturer to sort it out, but i could be wrong. might be worth having a read of that.

it is entirely up to the store hw they deal with this, they will either refund, exchange, or send for repair, why do you say it is unrepairable

they are well within their rights to attempt to assess and repair it, if possible, before issuing a refund or replacement.

if this is done within reasonable time, thats all within the limits of a standard warranty.
you could be without your laptop for up to 28 days, as thats generally regarded as a reasonable time period.

if it says on the reciept to ring the helpline, do so.
follow their wishes by the book.

if the offer to replace it, go for it but don't be surprised if they want to see it first and send a courier to collect it.

under the T&C of your standard 1 year guarantee, they have the right to inspect the unit and make sure it hasnt been accidentally or maliciously damaged.
if no one instores is qualified to do this, it'll be done by collect & return, probs to Acer directly.

just cos you've personally had trouble with them, you write off an entire company's range of products?

seems overly harsh to me.

but I guess some people will be like that, tarnish everything with the same brand name as rubbish.

I see it every day, people saying "I'll never have a XXXX TV/PC/Phone again cos my last one had to be repaired"

electrical things can go wrong.
get over it

listen to you fella, looooool - get over yourself looooooool
well what else do acer make, all i’m aware of is laptops/desktops.
i'm on my 5th acer laptop, long story, but yes i would on my experience not buy another acer product, whether it be a laptop, desktop, ice-cream maker or what ever they make.
alot of people have issues with acer, that i know anyway.
happ days.

I'd contact acer, I always go to the manufacturer for the warranty, and never had problems.

a lot of people have issues with Samsungs, panasonics, dells, LGs, you name it. nothing is ever 100% free of faults, especially electrical goods
you've just been unlucky.

Acer pretty much do make just laptops & desktops (I think at one point they made smartphones and GPS systems too) but like I said, you've had a problem and written off all their products as troublesome.
your right to do so, but i personally think its a bit closed minded of people to do so.
Acer must be doing pretty well, as last year they bought out Packard Bell and as a result the new PB range has been way better than previously.

but like I say, I hear it every day, people saying they'll never have a such and such product again cos something happened to it.

I quite like acer stuff.
personally I've not had a problem with it in my years of working as both a PC tech and a salesman.

just think its a bit daft to write off a whole company cos of your experience.
if they were THAT bad, they'd go outta business.

Simple as.
