Hi Guys,

Hubby has the 160GB Acer Revo and is slowly starting to run out of space! Its his bday at the end of the month and thought about getting a bigger hard drive (500GB).

If I buy an external hard drive and connect it by USB how do you get xbmc to display the files in the movies tab for example with the fan art etc? He already has a smaller external hard drive and can see the files in the video tab of XBMC but they dont appear in the movies tab with the rest of the files already installed.

Hubby is running XBMC live off the Hard drive.

I hope this all makes sense, and thank you in advance

Sara x

Have not opened mine yet so no idea if it comes apart easily.

Edit.. Just opened mine and my initial thoughts would be Quite hard to get apart probably a screw under serial number.

using an external drive is fine, i use a 1TB external USB drive with mine and get all the fanart etc

Hi Guys, Thanks for the responcese, Hubby already has a 250GB external one with a number of files on it and can get xbmc to recognise the hard drive but the files are not displayed in the movies option of XBMC how does he go about setting this up? sorry for all the questions...
#5
Sorry hubby is using XBMC live straight off the external hard drive if this makes a difference

Lose the warranty then, if you're getting an external get a 3.5" 1TB for like £55.

In this case yes but not always.

Some people might like to take the chance of getting a 500gb for less than by itself so forgo the warranty . They also might like to have a portable drive instead of PSU 3.5 drive

You surely would need to point the database, XML, ini to the external drive.

I don't run it anymore last time I ran it was on XBOX 1 about 4 years ago. I'm looking at it through some google stuff now but I'm sure dcx_badass runs it so he'll know.

You might find an internal one would be better if you cannot get externals to download fan art. As you already said you have a 250gb external one.

Obviously a new internal would need the operating system installed and xbmc set up again or the drive cloned.

Thanks dontasciime, I believe adding the new content is the key, I will give it a try tonight!

I like the idea of an external one, to avoid invalidating the warranty.
#15
Does it invalidate warranty on REVO if you change the hard drive like ?

I do mine through sources.xml, this is a preview:
-

it's all done through the XBMC GUI interface no need to edit XML files

You can't add multiple paths under one heading through that can you? So it scrapes them all into one big folder instead of multiple.

yea I have 3 separate sources all set with Movies as the content, when you go into the Videos option it shows them separate, but when you go into Movies from the main menu it joins them all together and shows has list.

Each source has to have a different name i.e. Movies, Movies1, Movies2, but has long has the content is all set the same it sorts it all out. Same with TV Shows and Music.

I store latest films on external drive, and old films on a PC upstairs same with TV and Music

The psu on the WD 500Gb version was suspect (mine went off as well) . Look to see if this issue that plagued the 500gb ones has been fixed on the 1tb ones (eg see if anyone complains about them).

The Samsung S2 500gb external I just opened before is broken and it would seem that lots of people are having the same problem with them. To fix it you need to kick it:lol
