Hellooo people,

Thought I'd give it a go and ask if anyone has the Acer Recovery disc for Vista? This will save me reinstalling XP and then Vista as my laptop needs a reformat before I send it to Acer! Because if the fault is related to software they will charge me £80! Fools!

I really hope someone has..Obviously I would cover postage costs etc

Oh and another thing before anyone asks me Do I expect the serial number as well! The answer to that is NO!

These machines should come with an auto-recovery ?
#2
Hey there....

Thanks for the reply...

They come with auto-recovery but apparently that will restore it back to XP. So if I did that then I wouldn't have a Vista disc to re-install and be stuck with XP which is probably better...more stable but I have become used to Vista now! lol and I also paid £20 odd pounds for it!

how much you willing to pay?

I'd only want to borrow it to be honest....then post it back...

but if the price is reasonable to buy then I'd have a think about it?

I'm based in MK for 2 months then will be back in London!

Would it have to be an Acer Vista recovery disc or can it be any? I guess if it wasn't an acer vista upgrade disc would this void my warranty in anyway?

It would'nt void your warranty, I cant see why

PMed you a number call it and confirm ... you dont have to stay in a queue when you call Acer on that number

I have an Acer/Vista disc - but wouldn't it be dependent on model number/series if it works with your machine?
#13
Hi,

Thanks for your response..

I don't think so as its just the OS? Mine is an Acer 5633 WLMi?

Let me get this right the machine wasn't supplied with vista?, if so could that not be the cause of your problems?, very strange that any company would ship a vista machine and the restore partition would contain xp!
#15
Hi

The machine came with XP....it being a vista ready machine Acer provided free upgrade discs...now when I installed it I am sure...there was no option to make a recovery disc.....

So now have been told by Acer the only option will be to use the recovery console on the machine to get back to XP!

Hence wanting to use someones disc for Vista so I don't need to do all that

anyone?

can you not just usethe free upgrade diisk that came with it, after you re install or am i missing something:?

Im pretty sure (because I tried this recently) that you cant share recovery discs on the later acers.

Plus, acer share all their model numbers with at least 5 different machines, so if you did manage to find one, it would most likely install everything crooked, and acer wont take that as a proper reinstall.

I think your best bet is to buy a recov pack, I think they are about £25 which is resonable.

When you used the Vista upgrade disc, this would most likely have disabled your reinstall partition so you have had that one im afraid.

Your best bet would be to try the recovery partition and reinstall to XP for now, send the maching back to them and then worry about vista in the future when you get the machine back. I trust you have your COA for vista? If so, there are gonna be thousands of people who will lend you the upgrade disc.

Moral to this tho lol, make recovery discs, this wont happen! Especially with acers because they lock down their recovery mode if you so much as tamper with disc managment!
