Go to the doctors or the pharmacy and ask for oxytetracycline. It is an amazing drug and it clears up acne within days. You will notice the difference SO quickly. Urge him to do it....

Tea tree oil from Boots, make sure after each bath/shower he dries his back properly, mix some tea tree oil with Johnsons baby lotion and this should help. Nothing to harsh as he could have sensitive skin

I am not too sure. If he is really that conscious about them try and convince him. I have found that soaps etc only work to keep them away, not get rid of them. Plus you say he has quite a few? Oxytetracycline will clear it up.

Glad you aren't like Prissy, she's got a thing about squeezing spots uhhhhh

Anyway, get him one of the long back scrub brushes, he need to exfoliate more, if it doesn't get washed, just like his all you did was soak your face in water you'd get spots, so does his back. Its a case of getting you in the bathroom and start scrubbing :w00t:

i dont mind giving him a bit pain will scrub harder

I had to use this powerful steroid stuff on my scalp, it can mess up your hormones, well it messed mine up I got spots all over my back was horrible. He needs to see the doctor all these things rubbing on them is only temporary, acne is a hormone imbalance.

Go for it hun, if you think about it, like i said, thats all it is, he gets in the bath and just lies back, im betting on it, but never actually washes it. See how you get on ;-)

Tea Tree oil is good but I'd strongly recommend a visit to the doctor. I suffered with post natal acne - I know this isnt what he has and apparently its quite unusual. All the 'normal' stuff didnt touch it and I ended up having to have treatment at the hospital with some drug with a contract to say that I would not get pregnant whilst on this drug as it is highly toxic and that if I did I would have a termination. Although it was a drastic remedy it was well worth it - luckily I had the acne on my back so nothing majorly obvious but incredibly painful and I still have the bumps although the actual spots are gone. It really is worth getting past the embarassment factor.

Don't scrub.......this will just spread the infection further. :?

Oxytetracycline are antibiotic tablets, they are not first choice in treatment, only available on prescription from gp. Zineryt solutiuon is an application that u might want to try again you need a prescription. Yes bathing helps but unfourtaneltly will not cure the problem. If ur husbands spots are mainly at the top ofhis back the doc can sort it for him.

He could try this, http://www.thebodyshop.co.uk/invt/56532&bklist=icat,4,shop,sbl,sblteatree

It is apparently very good at clearing up spots. I use the Tea Tree range for my face and that works really well.

It depends how bad it is really but you could always give Tea Tree oil a go first and see what happens?

acne comes in all different forms.. blackheads, small whiteheads, cysts etc

which type of acne does he have?

i've used oxytetracycline and felt that it didnt work - the only thing thats been successful for me is roaccutane which a GP cannot prescribe it has to be prescribed following blood tests etc.

Acne is not made worse by dirty skin so washing or scrubbing your husband's back won't help in the slightest. In fact it can make the skin more irritated and prone to more spots.

There are a bunch of non-prescription products which you can use but none will be as effective as prescribed drugs from your G.P. After your doc has had a look at the spots they will usually prescribe you with topical drugs or some low dosage antibiotics, increasing the dosage over time if they are not effective. If the spots haven't cleared up, your GP can prescribe different antibiotics which may be more effective for your husband or they may refer your husband to a dermatologist specialist at the hospital who will be more knowledgeable of the best course of action to take.

Just as fitzybhoy mentioned, roaccutane is a very powerful drug used which will require regular blood tests to make sure liver function amongst other things, is normal. The biggest side effect of this drug is drier skin, especially inside the nose which makes you more vulnerable to nose bleeds. This is highly effective but is normally prescribed when most other options have been exhausted.

My advise would be to ask him if he really wants to see the end of the spots as the longer he has them, the the worse they might get and the more likely they'll scar. The only effective way of getting rid of them is via prescription drugs from the doctor. I wouldn't waste your time and money on ineffective, expensive off the shelf products when there are tried and tested prescription drugs available from your doctor.
