Acquiring University CCTV - Bike Stolen

I had my bike nicked from outside university today in Sheffield. What would I have to do to get a copy of the CCTV of the cycle park entrance?

I have a crime number and University security are up to date too.

I don't think I'll get it back but would like a look anyway.

Cheers
James

Not yet, I don't have much time tomorrow so thought I'd ask here first, they did mention something about data protection earlier though. I just didn't know if it would need to be done through the police so if anyone had any ideas I'd welcome them so I can plan tomorrow a bit better and try to sort it.

Pretty sure you wont be allowed to look at the tapes but they Police will.

You won't get it, you will have to get the police to get it.

been through ll this with the london police and council

you are wasting youe time mate.....no cctv will be released that will be of any use to you as they will block peoples faces out

nd the police just re not interested they have smoking bans to enforce or youths to hassle

i had my bike stolen and subsequently found it for sale on ebay a few days later.....

tried everything but got nowhere......£600 down the swanny

AH well, I might jsut go ask them to keep the footage anyway, just incase. And I'll be checking ebay!

I spoke to the guy today who manned the CCTV, he actually took me into the office and showed me the view of the camera. So he might keep it for me

No harm in just asking, not every security guard is a jobsworth

most probably want to keep their jobs though.
The absolute best you can hope for OP is them letting you watch it (but even then I would say its unlikely). theres no way they will give you a copy.

with hindsight i should hve bid nd bought the bike off ebay but it ended up on private auction with identities hidden

police said thney would get in touch with ebay nd request the info which would take 3-4 weeks ....i rang back and they basiclly had closed the case due to no info .......on further investigation with the officers "boss" the info hadnt been logged and it was basiclly tough s they didnt have time for these kind of investigations and to take it to the civil court my word against the sellers

So you tried everything, bar winning the ebay auction and taking your own justice to them?

Strange.

I had a motorbike stolen which has never been found, if it was on ebay would be straight around their house.

As previously stated you will not be able to see it as it comes under the Data Protection Act.

He can see it if he says he was on the tape when he got mugged, though they have to edit out all the other people.

Look around local second hand shops too. If you have a Cashconverters locally, look in there as they've plenty of stolen bikes no doubt! My cousin's ended up in there

Suspect the police have done all they want to do... Issue a crime number.. Would take hours to look through a tape and they are likely to say its not productive...

Sorry

break into the office and steal it

The university wont supply you with CCTV footage a friend had his car broken into and the security said he had to go through the police to get it, they wouldn’t even watch the footage back to confirm anything.
