Activating iPhone Simplicity sim

I'm helping a friend in work get a cheap as chips iPhone contract. He's gone down the road of the 12 month £25pm O2 Simplicity deal with £200 TopCashBack. When the cashback pays out at the end of May he's going to put it towards the purchase of a PAYG 3GS iPhone (either that or the new 4G).

He's ordered the iPhone sim only sim but currently has a Nokia N96 (unlocked Vodafone). He began using the sim today in his old phone and has the calls and texts working but not yet the internet. I told him I'd set up the web browsing when he comes back in tomorrow.

I just want to know when I go to set it up is it just a normal case of saving the wap settings sent by O2 or, because it's an "iPhone sim", will it need putting in somebody's iPhone and connecting to iTunes?

well done with the cashback paying out end of may, i don't think they track for a month, it took them nearly 5 months to pay mine and i had to raise a dispute, i don't think i'd go for it again.

Just out of interest, did you eventually get the cashback in full?

Hey Pal,

Well when I had my sim, I just put it in and it started working. When you make a call etc it activates it.. The itunes plug in is usually required to activate the iPhone not the sim.

Hope that helps

Well I sorted it for him this morning. Turns out the iPhone Simplicity sim is exactly the same as the normal smartphone Simplicity. The only difference being the iPhone sim, when put in a non- iPhone, won't give the O2 wap settings. When you try to request them you just get a text with an error message on instead

My mate needed the O2 settings as his N96 was a Vodafone phone.

There is of course a simple work around. You can either get O2 to send you an email containing the manual installation settings or you can borrow a friend's sim and get the settings off that instead. I stuck my O2 Simlicity sim in his phone. He now has O2 Simlicity for iPhones fully working in his Nokia N96.

He ordered it on Maundy Thursday two weeks ago. TCB had a 24 hour special deal on all O2 £25+ sim only contracts (Quidco had the same deal a couple of days before that). It didn't track automatically but he put in a manual claim and it has now appeared in his account and says payment due 31st May.

Happy days!

they did pay in full but it was tracking forever and kept rolling over from month to month, this might just be a glitch at this time, i took out the sim in november and got paid end of march, after not hinking i was going to get it, there were a lot of people on here moaning about getting paid with this deal:thumbsup:

I think cases like yours are thankfully a minority but nevertheless frustrating. I ordered O2 Simplicity last August and got my £100 Quidco two months later but the same thing happened to my gf with Vodafone the way they kept pushing the payment date back every month.
