:whistling: Well hopefully someone will.

No problems with the laptop, just the adapter that seems to have developed an intermittent fault

light should be on even when unplugged from the laptop.

Try pushing the power lead more firmly in to the adapter, my vostro charger didn't sit 100% securely, it does now as i've hot glued it in place, as said before the light should be on whenever the plug is attached to the mains regardless whether its plugged to the laptop or not.

Light seems to come on less and less. Also making a low beeping sound

Everything fixed in tightly. Is there something in the adpater that dies eventually?

Thers a whole bunch of electronics in an adaptor including mainly capacitors, resistors, diodes and transistors any of which may die, the main part the transformer (drops the voltage down) is less likely to die as its basically lumps of metal wound with copper wires.
