When I first got Sky+ a couple of years ago I moved my existing Sky box up to my bedroom and went for multiroom.

We had the new Sky+ box in the living room and the old Sky box in the bedroom.

A Sky+ box needs a double cable from the dish to the box (so you can record 2 channels), so they had to run a new cable from the dish to the Sky+ box.

Obviously they had to run a new cable from the dish to our bedroom for the other Sky box (at the time I planned to go to Sky+ in there as well so they also ran a double cable from the dish to our bedroom in preparation).

That means I had 4 cables running from the dish so they had to replace the main device on the dish (called an LNB) with a new one that can take 4 cables.

Note they will also want to run a PHONE line from BOTH Sky boxes to the telephone socket as well (if you chose to leave it plugged in after they have gone it is up to you, but they will certainly install the wires).

Note, if you plan to go for Sky+ any time in the future and replace the old box then get them to run a double cable NOW. Then if they come back at a later date to fit a Sky+ all they need to do is plug the Sky+ box into the two cables.

I heard that in future ALL Sky installations would be Sky+ (at no extra charge) and the "old" Sky boxes would no longer be fitted. If that is the case you could be cheeky and ask for a second Sky+ box.

Why not ask Sky if they can give you a second Sky+ box for the multiroom while they are at it, once you have used Sky+ you will never want to go back to using an "old" Sky box.

If your whole family use Sky then I would suggest having the Sky+ box in the living room and the old Sky box in your room.

If you dont do that you will be constantly asked to record things on your Sky box and they will have to come to your room to watch it.

An even better suggestion is to go for TWO Sky+ boxes, then you can record TWICE as many things.

As I said in my other apend, once you have Sky+ you will wonder how you managed without it.

Great thanks for all of the info guys, so how much would a second sky+ cost then please?

I have a dvd recorder downstairs so I can use that to record the kids stuff, plus they are always playing on the wii so then my hubby can watch the rugby upstairs. Sky said it was easier for me to have the + box upstairs as then they wouldn't have to touch the current box.

You will have to phone up Sky and ask them.

You will have to phone up Sky and ask them.

Had sky installed yesterday, 1 sky+ box and the free box for the multiroom. Called today to ask how much it would cost to replace the free box with a second sky+ box, after speaking to several clueless idiots i got someone with half a brain and they said £199 for the box then £60 to install it, even though the guy who installed the multiroom yesterday put both cables through ready for me to upgrade when ever i want.
So they want £60 to unplug a box and plug another one in, no wires need to be installed.
I wont be buying a box from sky for £199 as it's not worth it, i'll be picking one up on ebay and plugging it in myself.
