no minimum amount, when you feel like you've finished, you've finished don't try to increase the amount of words used, you'll lose fluency.

I put together a 4000 word essay recently and it seemed never ending to me :x

OP: As awoodhall says mostly it is +/- 10% I would keep very close to 200 mark. :)
