try hard reset first by holding power button for about 10 secs should beep a couple of times
#2
not changed tvs and has tried reset button on controler has also formatted it to see if that works
#3
Try putting a DVD or CD in.

If they work the BD-ROM lasers failed.
#4
it doesnt show dvds or cds or games
#5
Sony transfer the waranty, unlike Microsoft
#6
Blu ray disc reader has failed, you should be able to return to the store if you have your reciept, if not Sony will replace it.
#7
Hold down the power on button for FIFTHTEEN seconds. If this doesnt work get your £150 ready as Sony will rob you!!! :)
#8
ok who do i get in touch with to see if still in warranty and to get it transfered please
#9
They will advise hard reset 1st though, so save anything valuable 1st!
#10
Yeah, same happened to mine. Just phone Sony, the number is on the manual. You just give them the serial number, then arrange a pick up time. They swapped out my PS3 at the door. Very straight forward and quick. I think they answer calls at any time as well, I phoned at about 9 in the evening.
#11
dan do you have the phone number please
#12
is there any way to check serial number online
#14

you need to hold down the power button on the actual console for around 10 secs not the controller

should beep 3 times and turn off and on again

formating wont adjust your visual settings
#17
Also you could also do the £2.49 i think it is for Playstation care, then in a couple of mths tell them its stopped working then you will be covered.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but this is not true. I've just had a 360 back to me which was registered to someone else. They contacted the previous owner who confirmed they sold it (as I could have stolen it, hence why they've more brains to just blindly transfer the warranty) and they re-registered it to me for a free repair.

Just accept the defaults for now - this won't help your games BTW as you could obviously see the main XMB beforehand. I reckon your laser's packed in FWIW. I've replaced a couple of these already.

Settings for what? He's already gotten into the XMB so his display is fine. There are no settings on the PS3 to tell it to stop reading games, so the exercise is pointless.
#24
well it seems the op found a new menu so lets see what the score is here?

He's just found the AV config menu you get when you hold the power button from standby.

Here's the bottom line, if the disc icon isn't appearing in the top right of the screen, the laser's goofed!

News: Sony 'extended' warranty PS3

By Roderick on 03-01-2009 at 12:23

Recently we reported on the attention RADAR has put into the problem that a group PlayStation 3 owners with the system in much or little use, some PS3's after a period of time, a broken lens BluRay discs and read so no more.

No problem, thought everyone, even to Sony or even call the store and then I get a new one.

It was based on the statutory two-year warranty, but Sony was only one year.

The choice was: 198 euros to pay for a repaired or a new purchase.

Since many complaints flowed in RADAR decided it an item in their program to dedicate.

Meanwhile, we continue for a while and we learn from our own environment that Sony will pay off with the guarantee of the PS3 has done.

Sony has, to our sources, a letter sent to the Netherlands where retailers make it clear however that Sony will repair for free PS3's older than one year.

Through the help desk is the Sony colleague Stefan succeeded his half-year-old 60 gigabyte PS3 costs to replace.

So see you again, consumers know their benefits programs, though they are sometimes harsh.

I can definitely vouch for Microsoft doing it. My PS3 was brand new, so won't have to test the waters with Sony.

BTW, OT - what did you make of E3?

haven't got around to watching the MS show so can only comment on Sony which I thought was intriguing. Some great exclusives coming up and imho, 2010 will finally be where the PS3 tops the 360 in being the best gamers console (still a lot of work to be done on PSN though).

Having bought a 360 a few months back, cant say I'm impressed with any of their exclusives except GOW1 which was great but no better than Killzone2. Playing Infamous at the moment which is the best game I have EVER played in terms of fun. Really is like playing assassins creed in a GTA4 world.

Drakes Uncharted 2 looked amazing as did the Last Guardian.

Wont even comment on the Wii which is just a cut down kiddies console. I still dont get why they call it a next gen console as its less powerful than a gamecube! next gen controller - fair enough. Mine only goes on when lots of mates are around for wii sports. Tried all the other top 20 wii games which were pretty awful (yes, even bored by mario galaxy lol).

Lol, that's what Sony said last year, and the year before that. Personally, I'd reserve judgement until you've checked out Microsoft's offerings.

IMHO, what MS will be releasing with project Natal will take a huge market share of casual gamers.
#32
Xb0xGuru is right. They change the name to yours for the xbox. But not always change warranty as i have learnt. in that case just do an online repair and as the xbox is in your name it should go through.

I didnt think project natal was even up for potential release until 2011 :w00t:

A Microsoft Corp. Halo 3: ODST representative told Punch Jump this week a description of the gameplay to be found in the title Halo: Reach for the Xbox 360, and did not deny support for the upcoming Project Natal system.

Halo Reach is said to expand upon the gameplay found in the Halo franchise, which consists mainly of first-person shooting action.

As for support for the Project Natal gesture control system showcased this week, the rep quickly said that he knew nothing about it, but did not deny potential use of the hardware for the title.

Project Natal is a new gesture-based control system that will include three-dimensional scanning, facial recognition, and voice recognition.

Halo: Reach will be released in fall 2010, the year Project Natal is tentatively scheduled to be released to retail.

Microsoft in Sept. will release Halo 3: ODST, a first-person entry that takes place prior to the events of Halo 3.

The title will include an all-new single-player campaign and new co-op multiplayer functionality for up to four players.

Each copy of Halo 3: ODST will grant multiplayer beta entry for Halo: Reach.
