Hi everyone,

I purchased a £700 laptop from littlewoods direct, which was delivered on thursday, it seems to be faulty, it takes forever to turn on, it seems to 'hang' at the windows login screen for over 5 mins before allowing me to type my password and log in, it juat says 'please wait'.

I was browsing the net last night, and a blue screen came up, with all white writting, saying windows had been shut down to prevent harm to the computer, and it could be caused by a recent hardware of software fault.

I called littlewoods direct this morning, who told me to contact toshiba directly, I said I wouldnt be doing this as the laptop is only 2 days old, and within 30 days I am entitled to a refund.

The lady put me through to aftersales, who told me I would be contacted within 48hours, to arrange a return for inspection of the fault, and could take up to 14 days!

This laptop is 2 days old, and I feel that I should be entitled to a refund or immediate replacement. Any advise?

you have certain rights ..... Your consumer rights on most electrical products mean that you can get a replacement after the 28 days but with in 1 year of purchase, & a full money refund if requested within the 28 days

use the 7 day distant selling regulations.

I had a laptop just break after 2 months and amazon are refunding me no questions asked.

Utter Tosh!

It is the retailers responsibility to supply you with a product that is fit for purpose. They have to accept the return as they sold the system to you. Although it is under the manufacturers warranty, you are allowed a certain amount of time to inspect an item to ensure that it functions accordingly. This is not the case in this instance therefore Littlewoods have a duty to accept the laptop back and should they choose to send it back to the manufacturer after refunding you then that is their choice!

As others have said, they are not entitled to do this. What they are suggesting is effectively send it back for a repair.

Did you pay by credit card? Inform them what has happened.

Whatever you do, do not accept a repair. (Since it effectively voids your rights under the SOGA.)

Just tell them the goods they have supplied is not fit for purpose and is faulty. Insist that under the sale of goods act and distant selling laws, you are entitled to a full refund. If they refuse, tell them you will be taking out a small claims court to recover the money and also all further costs this action will take. If they still dont play ball after telling them that, put it in writing and give them 14 days to comply or the action will be started.

Dont let them get away with it. You have rights. Use them.

You lot are amazing!

Called them, was transferred to a member of aftersales, she again said it would be sent back to toshiba for inspection.

I said its the responsibily of the retailer, and I want a refund.

She then put me on hold, came back and said that she will authorize a refund and the laptop will be picked up on monday.

Thanks guys, you made me have courage!

Nicely done homies - and good on you for taking your business elsewhere. Anyone who treats a customer like this deserves a lost sale.

Stay away from Littlewoods in virtually all cases of buying electricals IMO, utterly overpriced and looking to take advantage at the best of times. Ok for clothes + discounts though, in my experience.

Did your laptop have vista? That could be why you thought it was hanging. Vista is very slow to start up and stop. but you are quite right to demand refund if you where not happy

No it's not, if you're running under the minimum spec perhaps but a Vista machine should boot in a reasonably promptly and certainly less than five minutes. The fact the machine bluescreened shows there's a hardware or software problem somewhere.

I have experienced vista before, and its fast usually.

The system was really slow to boot up, even though it had a turion ultra x2 zm-80 processor, running at 2ghz, and had 4gigs of ram, so it shouldnt have been that slow.

The dreaded blue screen was the last straw then, a 2 day old laptop. And if littlewoods aftercare is anything to go by Im glad its going back within this 28 day time frame.

I usually think this, but for once it was priced the same as other retailers! I was £100 in credit with them, and had a 10% off code, so thats what made me purchase it.

I have ordered a dell xps now.

Im going to be £100 in credit with lx direct again now though! lol. What should I buy.

this is not a right. the only thing that is legally protecting the customer in this case is the fact that the item was most likely faulty when sold. and has not been accepted. Also the customer is covered by the distance selling regs.

you are not legally allowed a refund within 28 days.
