i would say plasma for over 42 inch.

This seems a good deal from comet for a toshiba 40 inch lcd 1080p plus quidco and any other voucher codes you may get hold of

or amazon have a toshiba 42 inch lcd 1080p for £449

I would certainly go Plasma. Does depend somewhat on what you are viewing on it though (TV, PC, console etc).

I would check out the 42" Panasonics.

why look at plasma's if over 42" as opposed to lcd's?
don't lcd last longer.. life time etc..

Nope.

Lifespan of both is approx 20 years if used for 8 hours per day.

Something tells me not many people keep their TV's for 20 years.

Even if these figures were way out expect to get at least 10 years, and both are rated the same anyway.

yeh i have heard of the the sort of general rule, if above 40" go for plasma, unless you have a specific need for lcd, by the sounds of it you have no clue which to get, so i would suggest plasma.
parents bought a 50" samsung plasma about 10 months ago, looks and works great with the ps3, when i take it downstairs, sky hd as well looks great. Althought SD when up very very close looks a bit hazy, but that is standard def for a reason and well 50" screen up close, what do you expect..
